About the client
Our client is a leading Coffee Exporter in Uganda that works with smallholder coffee farmers countrywide. While their core business is buying, processing, and exporting coffee to international buyers and roasters, the organization also works in partnership with local/national and international organizations to support smallholder coffee farmers to increase the productivity and quality of coffee produced contributing to improved livelihoods of these smallholders. Such relationships have been established on a long-term basis and require commitment and management.
These projects demonstrate that farmer organizations can turn around the fortunes of farmers and ensure increased incomes for individual farmers as well as increased foreign exchange earnings for the country. Our client has also defined a gender policy allowing women to actively participate in all sustainability coffee projects as strategic key partners.
The organization is also focusing its efforts on the youngsters, the aim being to develop their skills and knowledge and attract them to the coffee farming business. There is a strong belief that the youngsters will be the change catalysts to deliver profitable and sustainable growth.
Job Summary: Reporting to the head of finance the Senior Accountant will be responsible for preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, maintaining the general ledger, preparing tax returns, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other accounting duties as assigned.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Planning and Analysis:
- Develop and maintain financial models, forecasts, and budgets to support short-term and long-term financial planning.
- Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, including variance analysis, to identify opportunities for cost optimization, revenue growth, and profitability improvement.
- Prepare regular reports and presentations on financial performance, highlighting key findings, risks, and recommendations for senior management.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather relevant data and insights for budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Support the development of annual operating budgets and periodic forecasts, ensuring accuracy, reasonableness, and alignment with strategic objectives.
- Monitor and track actual financial performance against budgeted targets, investigating and explaining variances to facilitate decision-making.
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and company policies.
- Analyze financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and key performance indicators (KPIs), to provide meaningful insights to stakeholders.
- Identify trends, patterns, and financial risks, and proactively communicate findings and recommendations to management.
- Accounting for purchases
- Accounting for inventory
- Preparation of monthly financial statements and related group reporting requirements.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A university degree in Finance & Accounting, Business Administration, Project Management, Sustainable Development, or any other relevant field
- Full qualification in ACCA or CPA
- At least five years of progressive work experience in a senior financial role
- Experience in planning and running external audits.
- Experience with agribusiness supply chains or rural development.
- Solid working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Strong financial analysis skills.
- Strong Excel skills, detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work with little to no supervision and perform under pressure.’
- The preferred candidate must be tech savvy, entrepreneurial and business minded.
- Excellent attention to detail with a commitment to high quality and accuracy
- Proficiency in accounting software especially advanced excel, Power BI, SAP.
- Very enthusiastic, Self-motivated with a positive attitude
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Have sound analytical skills.
