Job Summary: The purpose for this role is to move the organization closer to its fundraising/financial goals by spotting fundraising opportunities, develop relationships with potential donors and other stakeholders (iNGOs, NNGOS/LNGOS, UN Agencies) as well as writing/drafting proposals in the Africa Region. Under the leadership of the Partnerships and Fundraising Advisor, the role will support capacity development of country teams in fundraising efforts and strategies, partnership development and retention as well as grants administration.
POSITION IN THE ORGANIZATION
This position sits within the Regional Platform and works closely with the country teams, global Institutional Funding & Grant Delivery (IFGD) team, Fundraising Member teams and other War Child Alliance (WCA) team members. The role is responsible for resource mobilisation and supporting country teams on funding strategy & implementation, donor mapping and building relationships with institutional donors. He/She is a shared resource for War Child Africa Region working across a portfolio of countries. (South Sudan, Uganda, Central African Republic (CAR), Burundi, DRC and Colombia). He/She will report to the Regional Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Advisor and will be working closely with the Regional Grants Delivery Advisor on Grants Management issues and proposal writing.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Fundraising and Visibility
- Research prospective donors, establish contacts to gain insight into needs, beliefs, and donation habits to understand how to position our organization to them whilst cultivating a network of dedicated donors and spotting new fundraising opportunities.
- Promote joint and strong participation with Country teams, understanding country fundraising needs/priorities from donor mapping, fundraising to proposals – aligning them to the Region platform to promote efficiency as far as resource mobilization is concerned.
- Assisting the Regional Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Advisor in brainstorming and creating new methods to raise funds for War Child i.e. Through War Child Communication function – Leverage technology and social media where possible to improve fundraising initiatives.
- Work with the Communications Officer to create marketing materials, like flyers and brochures, to be used for the promotion of events and other fundraising pushes and create a strong fundraising message that appeals to potential donors.
- Form strong relationships with donors and build upon existing donor relationships and form new donor relationships on a regular basis.
- Collaborate with other organizations including local organizations and other stakeholders/groups within the community to build partnerships and enhance fundraising activities.
- Being up to date with fundraising campaigns or initiatives being conducted by the War Child Alliance members and exploring ways for the Africa region to participate or be engaged with such initiatives.
- Ensure WC visibility by promoting awareness of the organization’s mission and work whilst utilizing advocacy and other stakeholder initiatives for fundraising purposes, developing key strategies that benefit from such engagements as far as fundraising is concerned.
Documentation, Communication, and Information Management
- Work very closely with country programs to conduct periodic donor mapping and analysis to keep track of the donor priorities using the donor tracking tool and updating it where necessary to keep it well informed and to also keep track of key information that is necessary for fundraising initiatives especially from country level.
- Through the engagement tracker – Keep track of all Regional engagements (both new and existing) making sure that the tracker is up to date, following up with countries on their specific engagements – making sure it is well updated and conducting an analysis or recommendation on how such engagements fits into the overall strategy for Snr. Leadership team information and decision making.
- Develop quarterly partnership/fundraising updates, highlighting key updates, lessons, and challenges in both fundraising and grants management and share within WC country program for learning and knowledge management purposes.
- Maintain complete and orderly records of donors, donor information and manage regular donor communications.
- Being up to date with specific information/trends in the donor world and making an analysis on how that will impact WC fundraising efforts.
- Working closely with the Grants Delivery Advisor in establishing and maintaining a comprehensive information management and filing system of documents and correspondence for donors and partners, making sure they are up to date in RAFIKI system.
- Also conducting quarterly data and information audits to identify gaps and ensure information is appropriately stored.
- Facilitate communication and coordination with donors between Partnerships, country team and other functions.
- Support countries in developing and reviewing their respective fund-raising strategies as well as engagement plans.
Partnership Management Support and Grants Management
- Lead the proposal development process for Regional proposals that involves 2 or more countries and ensure that WC policies and procedures in relation to proposals are adhered to at all times
- Support countries in writing and reviewing grant applications and fundraising proposals.
- Work hand in hand with the Regional Grants Delivery Advisor in ensuring that the Grants tracker is well up to date.
- Support countries in making sure that Country fundraising needs are up to date and sharing this information with the Fundraising members for their noting.
- Provide capacity development support to Country Programs on Partnerships, Resource mobilization and proposal development.
- WC is committed to the Localization agenda and He/She will support country teams in establishing proper Partnership Management systems and processes for local partners.
- Work with country teams on partnership tools, and process to promote quality partnerships with local partners.
- Work with countries to enhance capacity development of local partners including partner monitoring to improve efficiency.
- Establish learning of local partnerships work in Countries and sharing such lessons with the Localization team for strategic decision processes.
- Being a champion of Partnership principles inline with WC partnerships policy.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Relevant Bachelor’s Degree, MA or MBA will have an added advantage.
- At least three years of experience in fundraising, sales, or marketing in the East African Region preferred.
- Sound knowledge of grant management approaches and donor compliance, having experience of managing grants from institutional donors such as EU and UN agencies
- Experience in developing and in the use of project management tools including Logical Frameworks, Theory of Change models, Budgets, Activity Plans and Monitoring & Evaluation
- Sound knowledge and experience in working with local partners.
- Experience in report writing and working remotely.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills
- Strong attention to detail

- Ability to successfully balance priorities while managing multiple tasks and planning big events.
- Ability to work in different context.
- Working knowledge of French/Arabic is desirable.
