Job Summary: The QC ETP team leader shall provide support to the Quality Department by independently overseeing the operation, monitoring, maintaining, and trouble-shooting of the effluent treatment facility/plant (ETP) and its processes. He/she shall equally oversee the sampling and testing of wastewater samples to ascertain compliance with NEMA and local operating regulations. He/she shall coordinate the day-to-day operations of the ETP plant and testing facility and ensure successful planning and implementation of operation/testing activities, including work planning, supervision, technical support and reporting of issues that may arise
The team leader shall display good operational and laboratory skills and an understanding of basic chemical principles and fundamental analytical chemistry theories. He/she will manage entire operations of ETP and testing facilities while ensuring they are carried out in an impartial and confidential manner.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise the day to day functioning/operation of the effluent treatment plant
- Supervise sampling, preparation of samples and testing as well as ensure complete adherence of the QCs to the established sampling and testing plans and working instructions/procedures.
- Troubleshoot or participate in troubleshooting of any problem regarding the operation of the plant
- Provide technical expertise to ETP personnel; train, and demonstrate laboratory protocols and methods, proper use of equipment and machinery, and appropriate safety procedures.
- Provide methodological leadership and instruction to ETP staff
- Develop quality standards and programs; monitor and maintain quality of ETP operations and performance of ETP staff in compliance with lab recognition standard
- Establish yearly competence testing programs for all ETP personnel in liaison with the lab coordinator, Quality supervisors and Quality manager
- Maintain and periodically test equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and safety of performance
- Maintaining stock of chemicals, glassware and reagent needed to run the plant and perform essential analysis and communicate the need to the Quality manager for purchase.
- Develop, modify, verify and validate methods and ensure all methods are up to date
- Identify and communicate required testing procedures and standards for purchase
- Conduct analysis of testing results and interpretation
- Ensure instrumentation is operated and maintained as guided by the manuals, define and measure quality metrics and report result in an appropriate manner.
- Management of testing facilities and environmental conditions by ensuring daily maintenance of good housekeeping standards and maintaining of monitoring records.
- Take part in the coordination and support on-site audits conducted by external/third party auditors, evaluate audit findings and implement appropriate corrective actions
- Keep up to date with all related quality and environment legislation and compliance issues
- Periodic review of risks related to impartiality and other quality risks and establish control measures to prevent/minimize their occurrence as required by ISO 17025
- Report to laboratory management on the performance of the management system and need for improvement
- Initiate investigation when non-conforming results and customer complaints are detected as required by ISO 17025
- Finally, we expect you to be as innovative as possible.
- Seeing to the department’s administrative processes, including completion of work orders, time records, used materials, project data, etc.
- Formulation of work progress reports based on the plant maintenance software.
- Management of tools, safety and protection equipment and ordering of new tools and resources.
- Consultancy on optimal spare parts supplies.
- Keeping up with developments within the professional discipline
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences, Laboratory Sciences, Chemistry, Food Science and Technology or any other related field from a recognized university.
- One year of experience in a busy environment.
- At least 1 year hands-on in the Food Industry. Beverage manufacture a distinct advantage.
- Detailed knowledge about laboratory tests, reagents and equipment’s calibration/maintenance.
- Training in Food Safety, Hygiene handling techniques and ISO 17025
