Job Summary:  The program Officer – vaccines and immunization is coming on board to enhance the existing technical expertise in improving EPI program with a deeper focus on the malaria vaccine rollout. S/he will work very closely with MOH/UNEPI and key stakeholders supporting the EPI program at national and sub national level. The major activities will be in preparation for and post introduction of malaria vaccines to ensure a smooth introduction and service uptake.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with national and sub national stakeholders support to strengthen the immunization program ensuring coordination of resources and efforts at all levels to facilitate a successful introduction and scale up of the malaria vaccine.
  • Work very closely with district health teams to strengthen adherence the introduction plans including participating in the training of district and health facility staff as needed
  • Support preparation for and implementation of PATH and EPI led malaria vaccine activities, including close coordination with UNEPI and partners, maintaining timelines and documentation of all program activities.
  • Provide robust analytical and data management support to present progress in malaria vaccine coverages.
  • Collaborate with WHO and MOH surveillance officers in reporting and following up AEFIs
  • Work very closely with district health teams to strengthen adherence the introduction plans including participating in the training of district and health facility staff as needed recording and reporting adverse reactions received from healthcare professionals and patients
  • conducting in-depth interviews with patients and healthcare professionals
  • completing AEFI reporting forms on malaria vaccine and other treatments
  • Draft and review study protocols, pilot test protocols, and ensure appropriateness of protocols for ease of study implementation and efficiency in gathering required data.
  • Support business development efforts for additional resources for the vaccines and immunization program.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant should preferably hold a master’s degree in public health, Epidemiology, social sciences or any other health related field.
  • At least five years’ experience working with immunization programs at national and sub national levels.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Uganda public health context, including MOH structure, policies, and procedures, particularly immunization
  • Exceptional diplomatic interpersonal skills and ability to build strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and think innovatively to respond to changing situations in a flexible manner.
  • Expertise preparing thorough, well-written, and concise documents and strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to synthesize information and prepare compelling presentations and short reports
