About US:
The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) was established in 2007, from the then Ministry of Water, Lands and Environment, following the cabinet decision taken on 15th April, 2007. It has the overall responsibility of the development, managing, and regulating water and Environment resources in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to the Assistant Commissioner, Water Resources Planning and Management for performing the following duties:-
- Supporting formulation and review of national policies, legislations and strategies on wetlands management;
- Setting standards for wetlands management;
- Supporting coordination and supervision of national projects on wetlands management;
- Supporting coordination and harmonization of wetland management activities carried out by the various local governments and other actors in the sub-sector;
- Supporting inspection, monitoring and evaluation of activities of Local Governments and other actors so as to ensure compliance with the national standards, policies and plans;
- Supporting design, development and maintenance of a national wetlands master plan and national wetlands information system;
- Supporting development, testing and promotion of scientific knowledge base for optimal wetlands management;
- Providing technical advice, support supervision and training within the area of wetlands management Sub-Sector;
- Serving as a national focal point for the coordination and implementation of Ramsar Convention on wetlands and other relevant International and Regional Agreements and Protocols;
- Providing administrative and technical support to the National Wetlands Advisory Group (NWAG) and the National Ramsar Committee (NRC);
- Any other duties that may assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science; or Engineering; or any other water related field and a post graduate qualification in any of the above fields from a recognized University/Institution. Engineers must be registered with the Uganda Engineers’ Registration Board. A post graduate qualification in Management and or Administration will be an added advantage
- Applicants should have a minimum of six (6) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Senior Wetlands Officer in Government
