Job Title:   Inclusion and Safeguarding Liaison Officer

Organisation: Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

Duty Station: Kampala, Uganda

Reports to: Director – Quality Assurance Directorate, Makerere University, Program Operations Lead, Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

 

About Organisation:

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program envisions a transformative network of young people and institutions driving inclusive and equitable socio-economic change in Africa. Since launching in 2012, the Program has supported nearly 45,000 young people in Africa to pursue secondary or tertiary education.   The second phase of the Program will offer 1000 Scholarships to young African women and men, admitted to both the Undergraduate and Graduate Academic Programmes at Makerere University Main Campus. The Program aims to deepen inclusive University education and empower the Youth to transform into leaders who will make meaningful contributions to national and regional development.

 

Job Summary:  The Inclusion and Safeguarding Liaison Officer shall lead in advancing Inclusion and Safeguarding at the University, and support with Program-related activities and coordinating with Program Partners focusing on Inclusion and Safeguarding.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Co-ordinate activities of awareness creation/enhancement among students, staff, and partners of their roles and responsibilities in relation to diversity, equity, and Safeguarding
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the University
  • Co-ordinate the implementation of the Makerere University Safeguarding Policy and the Makerere University Policy for Persons with Disabilities
  • Establish monitoring mechanisms to track the effectiveness of Inclusion and Safeguarding initiatives
  • Co-ordinate Regular Safeguarding Risk Mapping and situation analysis for Makerere University
  • Develop and operationalize the annual workplans for the Disability Support Unit
  • Co-ordinate periodic capacity building for Safeguarding Champions
  • Manage the MakSafeSpace e-reporting system and connect with Departments/Units mandated to address different safeguarding concerns
  • Spearhead monitoring the implementation and review of the Makerere University Safeguarding policy.
  • Establish and update an incidence register and prepare incident reports for University Management to consider
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to ensure alignment of Inclusion and Safeguarding efforts with Makerere University goals
  • Monitor, identify and report any safeguarding concerns that may arise during the Program implementation

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A Master’s degree in any of the Humanities from a recognized University
  • A Bachelor’s degree in the field of Humanities form a recognized University
  • A Postgraduate qualification in Monitoring and Evaluation or Project Planning and Management
  • A Postgraduate qualification (certificate/Diploma) in inclusive education/programming and/or safeguarding is an added advantage
  • Five years of experience in advancing gender, equality, social protection, and advocacy for young people and the most vulnerable in society.
  • Knowledge in monitoring and evaluation of inclusion and safeguarding concerns in programme work in an educational institution is an added advantage
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suites and other digital tools.
  • Excellent analytic, communication, interpersonal, writing, collaboration, problem-solving, planning/organizing, and facilitation skills
