Overview
Our client in Uganda is recruiting for an HR Manager for their office in Kampala. As part of their team, the HR Manager will be playing an important role in ensuring the department carries out its functions in a timely and professional manner. The role is based at the company Head Office and the incumbent will be interacting with employees at all levels, external parties, Group level staff and sister company staff and is expected to display a high level of integrity, maturity and professionalism.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the full life cycle of employees in Uganda
- Lead recruitment process. Collaborate closely with hiring managers to ensure we meet their hiring needs and goals
- Source and attract candidates for current and future positions using creative and diverse sourcing methods
- Screen and interview candidates against position specifications and provide in-depth feedback about the candidates
- Focus on onboarding, engaging, growing, and developing our people, as well as implementing cross-organizational global HR processes to the Uganda team.
- A strong employee relations leader able to guide the teams through complex disciplinary and employee relations matters to arrive at proper and legally sound solutions.
- Lead HR processes such as onboarding, payroll, offboarding, life events etc.
- Design and deliver targeted solutions in a dynamic environment, including engagement, performance management, benefits management, talent management, recognition, change management and team building.
- Headcount tracking, training and development and to ensure cultural alignment.
- Help promote an enjoyable and exciting workplace to retain employees.
- Ensure HR systems are updated, and able to leverage insights based on data to assess and impact the business units.
- Lead team building activities and employee experience initiatives
- The person in this role must be a strong leader who is able to guide the HR function and business
- managers on all matters relating to HR and who will gain the trust and respect of all levels of employee.
- Supervision and development of the Uganda HR Team which includes roles based in Head Office and roles based in the field.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Experience within a reputable microfinance institution in a similar managerial role for at least three years.
- Education: Minimum a bachelor’s degree in human resource management, business administration, or a related field is typically required. A master’s degree in HR or a related discipline can be an advantage.
- Knowledge of Labor Laws: Familiarity with labour laws and regulations is crucial for ensuring compliance in areas such as employment contracts, employee benefits, termination procedures, and workplace safety.
- Recruitment and Selection: Strong expertise in sourcing, interviewing, and selecting candidates, as well as designing effective recruitment strategies to attract top talent.
- Employee Relations: Ability to manage employee relations, handle grievances, and resolve conflicts in a fair and diplomatic manner while upholding the company’s policies and values.
- Performance Management: Proficiency in developing and implementing performance appraisal systems, conducting performance evaluations, and assisting managers in setting performance goals and objectives.
- Training and Development: Experience in identifying training needs, designing and delivering training programs, and facilitating professional development initiatives to enhance employee skills and competencies and evaluate impact of training done
- Compensation and Benefits: Knowledge of compensation structures, salary benchmarking, benefits administration, and the ability to develop and maintain competitive and equitable compensation programs.
- HR Policies and Procedures: Strong understanding of HR policies and procedures, including the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies that align with the company’s goals and comply with legal requirements.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to establish effective working relationships, communicate HR information clearly, and influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex HR issues, identify solutions, and make informed decisions that balance the needs of employees and the organization.
- Ethical Conduct: Upholding high ethical standards, maintaining confidentiality, and handling sensitive employee information with discretion and professionalism.
- Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and effectively manage HR processes and workflows.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity, and the ability to foster an inclusive and diverse work environment.
