Zembo is leading the African transition to electric mobility. Based in Kampala, Uganda, we provide affordable (PayGo) electric two-wheelers to low-income motorcycle-taxi drivers, most known locally as “boda-boda ”drivers. We offer a battery swapping service to our clients, enabling to swap within minutes at any of our stations.
Job Summary: The Motorcycle Engineer will ensure reliable operations and to continuously improve the motorcycle technology. As the motorcycle technical leader, you’ll have the responsibility and autonomy to lead the motorcycle technical team and develop the future Zembo motorcycle. Your objective is to enable Zembo to develop from a start-up managing hundreds of motorcycles to a recognised company operating thousands of e-motorcycles.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Improve the monitoring system and implement proactive maintenance and repair procedures
- Implement solutions to improve robustness, reliability and performance (efficiency, power)
- Work with suppliers (controller, motor, other parts) to reach the technical and operational objectives (managing orders, test of new models, bike design, …)
- Improve and setup the bike configuration (notably controller settings)
- Relationship with our bike assembler partner + manufacturing oversight
- Lead and train the motorcycle tech team
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Electrical engineer, Master level preferred
- Experience in e-mobility preferred, evaluation of key parameters, advanced controller functions and sourcing
- Work experience and knowledge about EV integrations and communications with other components (battery, dashboard, …) is a plus
- Entrepreneurial and problem solver spirit
- Willing to stand behind and be part of a teal organisation
- Time and location: full-time, based in Kampala most of the time, starting as soon as you can
