The AIDS Support Organization (TASO Uganda), is an organisation contributing to a process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease.
Job Summary: The Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning Assistant will support project activities by collecting and analysing data, developing monitoring and evaluation plans, and ensuring compliance with MEAL frameworks. He/she will conduct assessments and surveys to measure project performance and contribute to learning initiatives for improving project effectiveness and outcomes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in designing and implementing data collection methodologies, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups
- Collect data from project sites, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Enter data QI.projects data into databases in a timely and accurate manner
- Verify data for accuracy and completeness through routine data quality checks and validation procedures
- Assist in cleaning, coding, and organizing datasets for analysis
- Conduct basic data analysis using statistical software.
- Assist in preparing data visualization materials, such as tables, charts, and graphs, for reports and presentations
- Contribute to the writing and editing of project reports, success stories and case studies
- Provide administrative support for MEAL activities, including scheduling meetings, preparing materials, and organizing logistics
- Assist in tracking project indicators and targets, flagging any deviations or trends for further investigation
- Participate in capacity-building activities, such as trainings and workshops, to enhance MEAL skills and knowledge
- Enter data into databases accurately and efficiently.
- Verify data for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain organized records of data sources and data entry activities.
- Generate routine reports and summaries as required.
- Assist in data cleaning and validation processes.
- Ensure compliance with data management protocols and procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to address data-related issues.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive data.
- Any other duties and may be assigned by the supervisor
Key Outputs:
- Data collection, data entry, and data verification processes for program monitoring and evaluation conducted.
- Surveys, assessments, and evaluations to measure program impact and outcomes conducted.
- Focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and other qualitative data collection activities organized and facilitated.
- Data collection tools, training materials, and reports developed and disseminated.
- Data analysis using statistical software conducted and data visualization materials, such as graphs and charts prepared.
- Donor reports, project proposals, and other program documentation prepared.
- Up-to-date program databases and performance monitoring systems maintained.
- Regular project meetings, workshops, and trainings conducted to share updates and findings on program monitoring and evaluation activities
- Data quality and integrity ensured throughout the project cycle.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Quantitative Economics, Public Health, Business Statistics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Computing or a related field.
- Post graduate training in M&E monitoring and evaluation methodologies, data collection techniques, and statistical analysis preferred
- Master’s in Public Health, Health Services Research, Monitoring and evaluation, statistics, Biostatistics, Clinical epidemiology and biostatistics or a related field
- At least 1-2 years of experience in HIV/ART/PMTCT data management, monitoring, evaluation, or research, preferably in a development or humanitarian context.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- Familiarity and knowledge of national HMIS tools and databases.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and analysis, excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with colleagues from diverse backgrounds, strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Other Qualities/Attributes: Commitment to upholding ethical standards and confidentiality, flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines, willingness to travel to project sites and work in challenging environments.
