Yalelo (U) Limited is a tilapia fish farm that was established in Uganda in 2019. The farm is located in Butembe, Buikwe district on the shores of Lake Victoria. Yalelo Uganda is a subsidiary of First Wave Group B.V; a Dutch company with a portfolio of aquaculture related assets in Africa. First Wave Group owns and operates Yalelo Zambia, a pioneer of Aquaculture founded in 2011 that has grown quickly to become the leading fish farm in Zambia and among the largest aquaculture farms in Africa.
Job Summary: The Payroll and Taxation Accountant is responsible for all payroll accounting. The incumbent is responsible for the appropriate recording of salaries thereby ensuring the accuracy of payroll input, calculations, and payments based on HR inputs. The incumbent is also responsible for all tax and other statutory matters in Yalelo (U) Limited and for tax inputs in projects (i.e. VAT).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Complete, accurate and timely delivery of the payroll and tax general ledger of Yalelo (U) Limited.
- Assisting in the timely delivery of the IFRS annual financial statements for Yalelo (U) Limited and Yalelo (K) Limited.
- Facilitate and manage the preparation and review of company tax returns and the accurate, timely filing of these:
- Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with accounts team
- Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments.
- Review tax returns and quarterly/yearly tax projections like transfer pricing, VAT etc.
- Monitor arm’s length pricing between legal entities.
- Manage and facilitate income tax audits: preparing responses, creating schedules
- Identification of tax opportunities and manage tax aspects of projects:
- Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures.
- Provide support with various internal audits and special tax related projects for (i.e. for high value products).
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in either Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or a related field
- CPA level 3 is a n added advantage.
- Two to four years of experience in a similar or related role
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Good organization skills.
- Ability to work unsupervised and under pressure with tight deadlines.
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Hands-on experience with MS Excel
- Knowledge of general accounting principles, regulatory standards, and compliance requirements
