Our innovative at-home and community-based literacy and numeracy initiatives are improving student learning outcomes amid the education crisis that has resulted from the longest continuous COVID-19 school closure in the world.
Job Summary: The Education Systems Strengthening Coordinator will be responsible for leading Building Tomorrow Uganda’s efforts to co-design and guide the implementation of education systems strengthening interventions in the districts of Jinja and Kamuli. ESS Coordinators will identify and mobilize community members and sub-county-level government officials to prioritize primary foundational learning. This role involves collaboration and partnership with government stakeholders, community members, and BT partners to drive systemic change and innovation in education.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Benchmarking and Evaluation
- Visiting schools to analyze education data, trends, and performance indicators to inform decision-making and policy development at the sub-county level. This includes preparing reports and presentations for stakeholders at the sub-county level, advising on monitoring, evaluation and learning practices within the sub-county, ensuring proper data collection and analysis is conducted to enhance education outcomes.
Capacity Building and Community Engagement
- Working with community stakeholders to transition the adoption and oversight of community volunteers and educational programming, as well as identifying and advocating for sources of funding.
- Engaging with parents, community leaders, and other stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for education initiatives, including promoting awareness of education rights and opportunities through communities of practice.
Quality Assurance
- Monitoring the quality of education delivery in schools within the sub-county, identifying community needs, and recommending solutions to enhance learning outcomes to the sub-county authority. This includes the creation and sharing of best practices across communities.
Policy Advocacy
- Advising on the implementation of education policies and strategies at the sub-county level, ensuring alignment with national objectives.
- Work with sub-counties to come up with educational bylaws at sub-county level.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Science, or a related field from a recognized University or Institution of Higher learning
- A minimum of 2 years working within the primary education sector and with experience supporting projects or programs around systems strengthening.
- Experience working on an Education Systems Strengthening project in Uganda or across the sub- Saharan region will be an added advantage.
- Familiarity with the education system in Uganda or across the sub-Saharan region.
- Having served as a former fellow from any recognized non-for-profit organization and or with Teaching at the right level experience will be an added advantage.
Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of educational systems, policies, and practices.
- Experience in monitoring and evaluation.
- Experience with data collection best practices.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to build influence with key government stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in technology and computer programs (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
