About US:
Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries is a Government Ministry charged with creating an enabling environment in the Agricultural Sector. It is commonly known as Ministry of Agriculture and carries out its role by enhancing crop production, improving food and nutrition security, widening export base and improved incomes of the farmers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to the Permanent Secretary for performing the following duties:-
- Initiating and implementing policies, legislation, standards, plans and strategies for sustainable exploitation of natural fisheries resources in the country;
- Monitoring and evaluating the production and productivity of the natural fisheries resources in Uganda;
- Restocking lakes and rivers with appropriate fish species and breeds for sustainable natural fisheries production;
- Building capacity at all levels for fisheries management and development;
- Identifying and providing guidance on management of fish breeding and nursery areas;
- Providing support to beach management units in monitoring, control and surveillance activities for the safety of fisheries resources;
- Providing technical support and guidance on the use of appropriate fish harvesting technologies and gears to different stakeholders;
- Conducting periodic catch assessment and frame surveys on trade in natural fisheries resources;
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries; or Zoology; or Aquatic Biology and a Master of Science Degree in Fisheries; or Zoology; or Aquatic Biology from a recognized University/Institution A post graduate qualification in Leadership; or Business Administration; or Public Administration; or Management will be an added advantage.
- Applicants should have a minimum of twelve (12) years relevant working experience in handling issues of natural fisheries in Government, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Assistant Commissioner in Fisheries Resources Management in Government.
