About US:
The Prisons Act, 2006 provides for the mandate and functions of a Uganda Prisons Service composed of Central and former Local Government Prisons and spells out the duties of the UPS as to protect, promote and fulfill the rights of those incarcerated.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to the Commissioner, Research and Innovation for performing the following duties:-
- Providing technical support supervision and guidance in development, implementation and review of policies, strategies and guidelines for research and innovations and product testing and evaluation in Uganda Prisons Service;
- Preparing and submitting progress reports to Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs and other reports as required from time to time;
- Establishing working and collaborative linkages with Government MDAs and other relevant stakeholders so as to mobilize resources and support capacity management of the research and innovation, and product testing evaluation functions in Uganda Prisons Service;
- Supervising the conduct of research and innovation, and product testing and evaluation programmes and projects in the Prisons Service;
- Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the progress of research and innovation initiatives to the Commissioner Research and Innovations;
- Providing technical support in assessing and reporting on viability of research innovations products and services;
- Supporting initiatives to lobby for resources to fund research and innovations initiatives;
- Supervising, appraising and mentoring junior staff of the Division;
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Economics; or Economics and Statistics or Statistics or Social Sciences from a recognized University /Institution and a post graduate Qualification in any of the above fields from a recognized University /Institution and any other relevant trainings obtained in the line of research and data management.
- Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Principal Officer in Government.
