About US:
The Ministry of Works and Transport is a Cabinet level government ministry of Uganda, that is mandated to plan, develop and maintain an economic, efficient and effective transport infrastructure, and transport services by road, rail, water, and air.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to the Commissioner, Transport Regulation and Safety for performing the following duties:-
- Initiating and developing policies and strategies to promote safety of rail transport;
- Formulating and reviewing railway transport legislation;
- Monitoring and advising on effective enforcement of railway transport legislation;
- Coordinating public sensitization programs about safety and discipline in rail transport services;
- Coordinating formulation and implementation of bilateral, regional and international conventions, treaties, agreements and programs related to railway transport regulation in collaboration with the Division of Road and Pipeline;
- Overseeing inspection of railway lines and railway rollingstock;
- Coordinating investigations into rail transport accidents and advising on mitigation measures;
- Managing staff and assets of the Division;
- Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; or Economics; or Law; or Business Administration; or Arts; or Social Sciences and a Post graduate qualification in Transport Management from a recognized University/Institution. In case of Engineers, they should be registered with the Engineers’ Registration Board Being registered with a recognised professional body or being a professional member of a recognized Institution of Transport is an added advantage for the non-Engineering cadre.
- Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Principal Inspector Rail Transport in Government
