Job Title:  Assistant Commissioner, Dairy and Meat

About US:

Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries is a Government Ministry charged with creating an enabling environment in the Agricultural Sector.  It is commonly known as Ministry of Agriculture and carries out its role by enhancing crop production, improving food and nutrition security, widening export base and improved incomes of the farmers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to the Commissioner for performing the following duties:-

• Providing technical guidance on formulation, review and implementation of dairy and meat policies, legislation, regulations and standards;
• Promoting environmentally friendly and economically viable dairy and meat production systems in various eco zones throughout the country;
• Establishing and maintaining an effective diary and meat production system;
• Managing provision of sustainable services, including research for continuous national herd growth and improved diary and meat production consistent with the prevailing macroeconomic policies;
• Providing advice to the Ministry and Local Governments on the establishment and maintenance of the appropriate infrastructure generally required for dairy meat production;
• Guiding and promoting use of improved stocking materials and sustainable natural resources management;
• Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelors of Science Degree in Veterinary Medicine and a post graduate qualification in Veterinary Medicine or any related field from a recognized University/Institution. Applicants should be registered and licensed by the Uganda Veterinary Board.
• Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience in the field of Veterinary Medicine, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Principal Officer in Government.
