About US:
The Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) was established in 2007, from the then Ministry of Water, Lands and Environment, following the cabinet decision taken on 15th April, 2007. It has the overall responsibility of the development, managing, and regulating water and Environment resources in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to the Commissioner, Climate Change for performing the following duties:-
- Leading management of national climate change actions (Mitigation and Adaptation in Uganda;
- Monitoring implementation of mitigation and adaptation activities and updating the relevant stakeholders;
- Providing technical support on climate change issues;
- Leading initiation, development and review of appropriate policies, laws and programs necessary to ensure effective implementation of adaptation and mitigation activities;
- Leading and guiding implementation of adopted policies as well as decisions made by the relevant bodies of Government;
- Acting as National Focal Point for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and its Kyoto Protocol (KP), and other National Regional and International collaborations;
- Leading establishment and maintenance of the relationship with national, regional and international organizations, institutions and agencies;
- Leading promotion and cooperation in the development, application and diffusion, including transfer of technologies, practices and processes that control, or affect climate change in all relevant sectors;
- Leading and guiding on education, training and public awareness programmes on climate change;
- Any other duties that may assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following fields: Natural Science; or Forestry; or Environment; or Environment Science; or Agriculture; or Botany/zoology and a Masters Degree in any of the above fields and other related discipline from recognized University/Institution A post graduate qualification in Management and or Administration will be an added advantage
- Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Principal Officer level in Government
