About US:
Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries is a Government Ministry charged with creating an enabling environment in the Agricultural Sector. It is commonly known as Ministry of Agriculture and carries out its role by enhancing crop production, improving food and nutrition security, widening export base and improved incomes of the farmers.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible to the Commissioner for performing the following duties:-
- Providing technical guidance in formulation, review and implementation of agrochemical control policies, legislation, regulations, standards, strategies and plans;
- Enforcing legislation, regulations and standards on agrochemicals;
- Creating awareness on agrochemical legislation and regulations;
- Establishing and maintaining plant quarantine facilities and laboratories;
- Establishing and operationalizing collaborative mechanisms with national and international organizations on technology generation, standard setting, regulation and certification of agrochemical control;
- Building capacity of service providers/inspectors on agrochemical control;
- Establish, operationalize and maintain database on regulation and certification of agrochemicals control;
- Building capacity of service providers/inspectors on agrochemical control;
- Establishing, operationalizing and maintaining database on regulation and certification of agrochemicals control;
- Training and gazette agriculture inspectors;
- Conducting pest risk analysis (PRA)
- Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Applicants should be Ugandans holding an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture; or Crop Science; or Agricultural Economics from recognized University/Institution and a minimum of a post graduate qualification in Agriculture; or Crop Science; or Agricultural Economics from a recognized University/Institution. A post graduate qualification in Management or Administration will be an added advantage.
- Applicants should have a minimum of nine (9) years relevant working experience in handling issues of pest control in plants and crop management, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Principal Officer in Government.
