About RSCE:
The Regional Service Centre in Entebbe, Uganda (RSCE) was established in July 2010, following the adoption of General Assembly resolution 64/269. The Centre provides efficient, client-oriented and scalable services with the goal of moving transactional, non-location dependent administrative functions to the Centre from its client entities. This includes transactional elements of human resources, finance, multimodal movement and control, personnel and cargo transport and information and communications technology (ICT) support.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Communications, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
- Provide support in the development of a communication strategies for the Programmes and Initiatives of the Centre and identify requirements for implementation.
- Support Chief, Communications on the design and creation of multimedia products (e.g. videos, motion graphics, animations, photography, and infographics), for effective storytelling across the Centre digital plat-forms, undertaking research and determining appropriate medium and target audience
- Leverages technology and social media networks, and makes informed use of user analytics to expand the reach and availability of information about the Regional Service Centre
- Prepare press releases, media briefs, reports, talking points, newsletters, brochures, and RSCE visibility materials and organize advocacy and communication campaigns.
- Identify key contacts/constituencies and opportunities for strategic partnerships to foster communication with RSCE stakeholders
- Support communication unit in conceiving and implementing marketing strategy for the centre
- Prepare production plans, write drafts, obtain clearances, finalize texts, and edit and coordinate design approval, printing procedures and distribution.
- Organize clearances, production and distribution of information material; conducts photo and graphic research
- Assure alignment of digital products and campaigns to the RSCE’s strategic communication and pubic information objectives
- Assist in the development of annual work plans for monitoring progress activities and achievements and regularly update the same.
- Provide expertise and technical advice on information tools and communication strategies
- Communicate with clients, designers and planners to produce a design a quality concept
- Create a weekly schedule template
- Coach the junior UN staff on public information and public relations is-sues
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Communications Officer job must hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Communication or public relations
- At least four years of experience in Public relations, corporate communications, strategic communications, graphic design, videography, journalism
- Microsoft Office Suite, Final Cut Pro, Motion, Adobe Creative Cloud platform, to include Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Lightroom, Premiere and After Effects.
