Global Health Uganda (GHU) is a registered not for profit, limited liability company with the mission to promote child health by conducting and facilitating quality and relevant research in child health, neurodevelopment and interventions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identify and screen patients (including reviewing laboratory results) for possible enrolment into the study according to the protocol.
- Consent and explain study procedures to caregivers of study participants.
- Recruit and enroll eligible patients into the study.
- Ensure that study procedures are performed in compliance with SOPs and trial protocol, and in line with GCP principles.
- Complete all required study CRFs correctly and accurately, as guided by the SOPs.
- Provide emergency and continuous medical care to children taking part in the study for the duration of the study.
- Participate in routine clinical care of non-study participants on the wards.
- Collect appropriate samples from study participants and ensure that they are delivered to the appropriate labs as per protocol.
- Identify and promptly document/report Adverse Events (AEs) and Serious Adverse Events (SAEs); completing EAs & SAE forms and take appropriate actions as per protocol.
- Assess and ensure study participants safety and privacy throughout the study period.
- Attend weekly study site meetings.
- Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the site study staff.
- Perform other duties given by your supervisors in line with your work.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from a recognized university, and fully registered with UMDPC, with an APL.
- Good clinical skills, and experience in working with children.
- Previous work in clinical trials is added advantage.
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training and Research Ethics training, such as human subject protection (HSP) – with certificates.
- Excellent command of English (written and oral), as well as the local language (site specific: Luganda and Lusoga respectively).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to develop relationships with participants.
- Experience of living and or working in a rural environment.
- Team-working skills to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Time management skills, the ability to work under pressure, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and self-motivated.
