The Danish Institute for Human Rights is a national human rights institution operating in accordance with the UN Paris Principles. The DIHR was originally established as the Danish Centre for Human Rights by a parliamentary decision on 5 May 1987.
About Uganda Project:
The Danish Institute for Human Rights (the Institute) is the national human rights institution in Denmark with a mandate to work internationally. The Institute is expanding its engagements in Uganda through, initially, a pilot project (12 months) carried out jointly in a consortium.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: As a full-time Finance and Admin Officer, tasks will include:
- Support the Copenhagen-based Project Manager in all administrative, budgeting, and supervisory tasks that may arise.
- Ensure financial accountability and budgetary supervision of project activities in Uganda, with the support of Project Controllers based in Copenhagen.
- Maintain and update knowledge of donor’s financial guidelines and requirements as well as internal financial guidelines.
- Quality ensure partner activity budgets, and ensure that all expenditures are in compliance with donor guidelines and internal eligibility criteria, including documentation and justification of costs.
- Ensure that documentation for project expenditure is collected, checked and archived.
- Prepare and validate monthly financial reports for project activities in Uganda.
- Support the national Human Rights Adviser with all reporting relating to project activities in Uganda.
- Support the national Human Rights Adviser to maintain close cooperation with local partners, including promoting local ownership of the project.
- Support the Institute in establishing and maintaining a branch office.
- Provide assistance in planning and organizing trainings, workshops, events, DIHR staff missions etc.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- BA or other relevant degree in accounting, business management, or similar.
- Minimum 8 years of professional experience with project economy or financial management, preferably with international organisations and/or donors.
- Experienced Microsoft Excel user and experience working with financial management systems.
- Fluency in English (spoken and written).
- Be Ugandan national.
- A positive and dynamic personality.
- A team player with demonstrated experience of working in an international environment.
- Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills, including proven experience in developing partnerships.
- Prior experience of working with state partners and in politically sensitive contexts will be considered an asset.
- Well organised, flexible, and able to work independently.
- Good at complying with procedures and in meeting deadlines.
