On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), GIZ is implementing the regional employment promotion project in Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda in close cooperation with the private sector. In line with the BMZ’s development policy priorities, gender equality and ecological transformation are key elements of the Women Entrepreneurship for Africa (WE4A) project. WE4A aims at increasing the economic inclusion and empowerment of women as well as creating more decent jobs in African economies.
The WE4Aaction is a partnership jointly supported by the European Union (EU), the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and is implemented by the Employment Promotion for Women for the Green Transformation in Africa (WE4D) rogramme of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and sub-implemented by the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF).
GIZ is recruiting a WE4D Uganda Country lead to support the implementation of its Programme
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordination between the local team, the project management unit at HQ and partner institutions in Uganda.
- Liaise and coordinate with the sub-implementing partner’s team in Uganda on entrepreneurship trainings and access to finance ensuring quality management.
- Coordinate and conduct activities with entrepreneurship supporting organisations and relevant actors in the entrepreneurship ecosystem to improve the support to women entrepreneurs with green business models.
- Supporting the project management in managing activities in coordination with internal and external partners, especially the GIZ country teams, country offices, etc.
- Supporting the project management in monitoring and reporting the project objectives and achievements to clients, customers, and commissioning parties.
Specific Tasks
- Project Management
- Stakeholder engagement and management
- Project oversight and quality assurance to ensure project activities are in line with agreed objectives (including support to M&E and reporting)
- Contract management (including financial monitoring and engagement with the procurement department).
- Organizing public events jointly with relevant stakeholders (launch, closing or information sessions for specific projects)
- Project conceptualization and design (i.e. development of ToRs and project proposals)
Networking and cooperation
- Supports cooperation with partners, assists with PR work in the project/programme environment to improve and maintain good working relationships.
- Communicates local interests and efforts, forwards these and encourages sharing ideas and information for the benefit of the project.
Knowledge management
- Ensures knowledge transfer to project/ programme information.
- Prepares appropriate input for various project/ programme reports including annual reports and presentation documents
- Assists with research activities and studies on political issues which benefit joint programmes.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- University degree in a relevant subject (economics with a focus on entrepreneurship, finance, business administration, or similar disciplines).
- Minimum 3 years of work experience in technical/international cooperation in a relevant field (private sector development, entrepreneurship).
- Good knowledge of approaches to promote gender equality and green transformation
