We implement six programmes in thematic areas of Health, Education, Ultra-Poor Graduation, Emergency Preparedness and Response, Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents, and Financial Inclusion.

 

About MasterCard Foundation Project:

BRAC Uganda in partnership with MasterCard Foundation supported over 5,000 young people to complete secondary education. Of these, about 2,575 transitioned to tertiary education. It can be said that over 2500 of the alumni did not transition to tertiary education. Regardless of whether these young people transitioned to tertiary education or not, with the transition rate into the world of work for Ugandan youth standing at 24%. The end line evaluation report for the scholarship program showed that about 24% out of the 5445 scholars were engaged in some professional or semi-professional vocation or enterprise, a significant number of the scholars were not able to transition into the world of dignified employment. The Scholars’ Transition Entrepreneurship Fund is intended to contribute towards more of the Alumni to transition into the world of gainful and dignified employment through entrepreneurship as a pathway.

 

Job Summary:   The officer will lead the direct implementation of activities of the Scholars’ Transition Entrepreneurship Fund project of BRAC Uganda; including training and support supervision of young entrepreneurs, local stakeholder and community engagements, reporting writing, and participate in the design of new projects.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide mentorship and technical support to young entrepreneurs with guidance from the project manager through regular follow-up visits to the entrepreneurs to boost the growth of their social enterprises.
  • Quality planning, and implementation of the Scholars’ Transition Entrepreneurship Fund at the regional level.
  • Develop and implement capacity building plans for the young entrepreneurs based on capacity gaps identified.
  • Identify, document, and share learning, challenges, successes, opportunities and recommendations monthly with the Project Manager.
  • Boost knowledge management, communication and visibility of the project.
  • Strengthen and maintain partnership, networking.
  • Manage and uphold the implementation of BRAC policies including an effective safeguarding policy.

Safeguarding roles:

  • Establish a safeguarding culture across all levels by implementing BRAC safeguarding policies. Responsible to ensure team members are appropriately trained, supported, and have access to resources regarding issues that are identified and actioned in accordance with the safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Follow the safeguarding reporting procedure in case any reportable incident takes place and encourage others to do so.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The successful candidate should have a bachelor’s degree in education/ social sciences/ Development/ studies / in a related field.
  • A Postgraduate qualification in relevant field such as project planning and Management/ entrepreneurship development is an added advantage.
  • At least three years of work experience in an Education, Youth empowerment, Social development related field, 2 of which should be in a similar position in a recognized NGO setting
  • Ability to problem-solve, multi-task, determine priorities, take initiative, maintain high levels of self-motivation, work as part of a team and independently as and when required, and in multi-cultural settings
  • Project implementation skills and a demonstrated ability in achieving agreed deliverables.
  • Ability to create and sustain long term partnerships with District Local Governments, development partners and private actors.
