SEPSPEL evolved from the Busia Private Sector Promotion Centre, established in 1998 by the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a GoU/UNDP programme.

 

About SMAF Project:

SEPSPEL is seeking qualified candidates to fill the following positions in a 4-year project; “Small Holder Agric Financing Project(SMAF) Project that will be implemented in 10 Districts (Busia, Iganga, Mayuge, Butaleja, Tororo, Hoima, Masindi, Buyende, Namayingo and Bugiri Districts). The project’s primary goal is to ensure that smallholder farmers experience greater financial inclusion to improve their resilience.

 

Job Summary:    Reporting to the Project Manager, the Social-Economic Strengthening Specialist will be responsible for supporting vulnerable children and their households in engaging in activities to improve household income in various agricultural and other value chains.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct value chain analyses to identify market opportunities and private sector linkages suited to target beneficiaries;
  • Supervise and backstop FOs to enable them to provide customized training in areas related to the economic strengthening of vulnerable communities.
  • Provide target beneficiaries with opportunities to participate in entrepreneurship and vocational training, as well as value-chain and other market-based opportunities, by coordinating and linking with other programs and implementers conducting economic, agricultural, and nutrition development programs.
  • Conducted and/or facilitated training in business development skills, market assessments, financial management, and group savings and lending.
  • Establish good relations with NGOs, community-based organizations, and government partners.
  • Perform additional assignments and responsibilities as assumed or requested by supervision.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Development studies, Business Administration, Microfinance, or a related field.
  • Post-graduate training in any of the above disciplines will be an added advantage.
  • Two to five years of demonstrable experience in working in livelihood programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of microfinance and community-based micro-financing approaches,
  • Experience with USAID funded livelihood projects for vulnerable communities will be of advantage.
  • Ability to provide technical support to community group Income Generating activities and carrying out needs assessment using participatory approaches
  • Adequate knowledge on community market access initiatives and marketable skills development.
  • Must be aged between 25-35 years old
