Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an independently governed institute within the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University and has the mission “To strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.” IDI has operations across Uganda as well as in a number of other African countries and has a staffing of over 1,000 managing multiple projects in research, clinical services, public health and training.
Job Summary: The STL/SMC Nurse will lead the VMMC team at the supported site and support the provision of Safe Male Circumcision services as part of quality Male Sexual Health services in his / her, ensure the achievement of the site targets as well as timely documentation and reporting of data.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the scale up of Safe Male Circumcision as part of quality Male Sexual Health service, and provide leadership to the site when assigned.
- Ensure accurate documentation of all surgical and/or device circumcision services and related follow-up procedures.
- Ensure that all SMC services provided in accordance with standard operating procedures, guidelines, policies and related ethical requirements.
- Participate with other members of the SMC team in service delivery e.g. during SMC procedures.
- Assess recipients of care for eligibility of SMC and for any other clinical patient problems with appropriate referral.
- Treat all recipients of care with dignity, respect and understanding in accordance with IDI’s core values.
- Communicate professionally to different stakeholders.
- Be willing to support other project related duties as required.
- Provide post-operative care to SMC clients including management of Adverse events.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Ability to communicate with recipients of care in their local dialect- desirable.
- Must be knowledgable in the combination prevention approaches for HIV including Safe Male circumcision- required.
- Has demonstrable leadership skills in a health care setting with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary teams- required. .
- Has demonstrable skills in Quality improvement for SMC service provision in line with MOH standards- essential.
- Has the ability to use computer applications such as Word, Power point, Excel, Outlook and general use of a computer.
- Has experience and basic skills and knowledge in inventory management for medical supplies and logistics.
