Job Summary: The Manager – Payments will be responsible for driving the development of MTN’s Mobile payment strategy and successful delivery of digital payment solutions through new products, solutions and strategies to increase MTN Mobile Money merchants’ ecosystem and ALL other payments growth on all fronts. (Customer use, volumes and revenues).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy Implementation
- Play a pivotal role in strategy contribution and direction for the Payments, aligning the vertical objectives with the overall business goals and vision of the organization. Work with the vertical head to implement and communicate the roadmap and vision for the vertical.
Product Development
- Initiate and drive the end-to-end product development lifecycle for payment-related initiatives. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements, prioritize features, and ensure timely and high-quality delivery.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with stakeholders from other verticals, such as the BankTech, Product Delivery, and Commercial Division, Risk e.t.c to ensure effective collaboration and alignment of objectives. GTM of new enhancements or products, ongoing growth market initiatives and industry stakeholders to explore new opportunities and enhance the payment ecosystem.
Innovation and Market Trends
- Stay up to date with the latest industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory developments related to payments. Identify innovative solutions and market opportunities to enhance the organization’s payment capabilities and maintain a competitive edge.
Performance Monitoring
- Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to track the performance periodically and the success of payment initiatives. Analyse data, generate insights, and make data-driven decisions to optimize performance and drive continuous improvement.
Risk and Compliance
- Collaborate with the Risk and Compliance teams to ensure that all payment solutions comply with relevant regulatory frameworks, industry standards, and security requirements. Mitigate potential risks and implement robust controls within the payment’s ecosystem.
Customer Experience
- Champion a customer-centric approach to payments, identifying opportunities to improve the user experience and drive customer satisfaction. Analyse customer feedback and market trends to inform the development of new payment features and capabilities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Finance, Computer Science) is required.
- A master’s degree or equivalent has an added advantage.
- Proven experience (6+ years) in a and at least three years in a role within the payments domain, preferably in the fintech industry.
- Strong understanding of payments infrastructure, systems, and technologies, such as card networks, payment gateways, mobile wallets, and blockchain-based solutions.
- Deep knowledge of payment industry regulations, compliance requirements and security best practices.
- Experience in agile methodologies and product development practices, with a track record of successfully delivering complex payment solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Have strong business/financial acumen with experience developing metrics and pricing and compensation programs.
- Good understanding of the Ugandan market, subscriber preferences and subscriber trends.
- Excellent Contract negotiation experience and high rate at successfully closing deals.
