Job Summary: Become an integral part of StartHub Africa as a Finance Assistant, where your role will involve supporting financial operations and ensuring the smooth execution of financial tasks. As part of our team, you’ll handle various responsibilities such as managing accounts payable/receivable, assisting with budgeting and forecasting, cash and advance management, compliance, and generating financial reports. Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and databases.
- Ensure all financial transactions are properly documented and recorded in accordance with organizational policies and accounting standards.
- Reconcile bank statements and other financial accounts regularly to ensure accuracy.
Invoice Processing and Payment
- Process invoices, purchase orders, and expense reimbursements promptly and accurately.
- Verify invoices for accuracy, proper authorization, and compliance with organizational policies.
- Prepare and issue payments to vendors and suppliers in a timely manner, following approved payment methods.
- Manage staff advances and ensure that accountability is provided as per financial policy
- Manage bank and Xente payments
Budget Support:
- Assist in the preparation and monitoring of budgets in collaboration with the finance team and departmental managers.
- Help track budget expenditures and variances, and prepare reports for review by management.
- Provide support in analyzing budget trends and identifying areas for improvement or cost-saving opportunities.
Compliance and Regulation:
- Assist in ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations, laws, and policies.
- Filing returns (VAT, PAYE, WHT, NSSF, LST)
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and assistance as required
Administrative Support:
- Assist with the preparation of financial documents, reports, and presentations as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information and support cross-functional projects.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
- Professional certification such as CPA or CFA is desirable.
- Two to three years of relevant work experience in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a finance or accounting role
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and familiarity with financial software
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and responsibilities.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial terminology.
