Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide transportation to staff and IITA authorized passengers using IITA vehicles in accordance with IITA policies and procedures.
- Operate and maintain vehicles assigned in a manner that ensures greatest safety possible for the vehicle and its passengers and that maximizes vehicle working life.
- Assist in loading and unloading equipment, specimens and supplies onto IITA vehicles.
- Maintain the cleanliness and basic maintenance of the assigned vehicle.
- Coordinate with staff to ensure timely arrivals and departures for scheduled activities, in line with the fleet management policy.
- Keep accurate records of mileage fuel consumption and vehicle maintenance.
- Ensure the vehicle Assigned is timely serviced.
- Support logistical needs such as picking up supplies and materials for research work
- Compile and submit monthly vehicle mileage reports to the station manager
- Maintain and ensure an effective filing system of documents for all vehicles at the station
- Support the Station Manager in review of bills and invoices from the garage and other vehicle maintenance.
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with staff, authorized travelers, and external contractors.
- Keep vehicle log sheets updated.
- Any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The Driver should have completed Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE)
- Familiarity with government road safety regulations and protocol for transporting Scientific specimens.
- Basic computing skills with knowledge of MS Office applications
- Good knowledge of English language.
- Good written and Oral communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other staff members.
- Possess excellent interpersonal skills, good judgment, and a high level of respect for confidentiality.
- Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Ability to adapt to a flexible working schedule based on the institutes requirements.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety and punctuality.
- Between 30- 45 years
- At least more than 2 years working experience in a similar field preferably in a busy NGO
- Valid driving permit for classes B and C/C1. With a clean driving record
