Job Summary: The Credit Manager role requires a leader with outstanding analytical reporting and problem solving abilities alongside team management skills. Being a key member of the leadership team, you will be responsible for:
- Country credit models, strategies and teams
- Leading reporting, providing reliable and accurate credit risk management advice
- Developing internal control procedures to increase efficiency of operations and minimize business exposure
- The role requires you to have competency in managing PAY-AS-YOU-GO credit models, assessing credit risk, managing administrative and field teams, preparing reports and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial & Operational Strategy:
- Create, monitor and refine and country credit strategies to manage risk and drive sustainable growth of the portfolio
- Own the implementation of credit models to be used by the business, including but not limited to bad debt modeling and predictive loss rate models
- Identify, quantify, and evaluate credit risks owning PAR30, RAR, collections and FPD performance
Portfolio Performance Reporting
- Provide quality analysis for regular and ad-hoc credit performance reporting at portfolio, product or customer-level(s), including management reporting on PAR30, RAR, collections and FPD
- Provide insights on deviations to budget, commentary on periodic performance to support the Head of Credit with strategic insights to help the business maintain excellent portfolio health
- Work closely with department heads to understand monthly expenses (BvA), monitor spending and drive efficiencies
- Coordinate with the Global Team to benchmark, analyze and report on credit performance and trends
Tax, Legal and Regulatory Compliance
- Keep abreast of changes in relevant legal and regulatory environment and communicates major changes to the Head of Credit
- Ensure company compliance for all financial record control including credit contracts
Governance & Risk
- Internal control maintenance, identification, profiling and reporting potential risks as well as propose and implement mitigation plans
- Evaluate whether credit risk falls within acceptable parameters, approve and recommend appropriate credit facilities including terms or conditions of facilities
Team Leadership and Culture
- Deliver results through others through mentorship and coaching of team members and allowing teams to take accountability and ownership of their work
- Set and monitor the attainment of departmental KPIs and SLAs, ensuring effective escalation and adoption of the SMART approach as necessary
- Ensure performance consequences are taken by team leads in the department i.e. recognize best performers and manage poor performers from time to time through both, formal and informal feedback
- Conduct regular check-ins for communication, open feedback sessions and attain team alignment in terms of strategic progress and changes
- Assess and monitor the training and development needs in the department owning skill building and capacity development including but not limited to managing recruitment processes and onboarding (30,60,90-day plans) and performance reviews for key staff
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a B.A or B.S in Accounting with MBA or Masters in a quantitative field, including economics, econometrics, data analytics, statistics, credit management or finance preferred.
- Fellow of CIMA/ACCA and CPA (U)
- Minimum of 5 years progressive leadership and functional experience in an analytical field such as consumer credit, asset finance or data science, with 3+ years of experience leading a Finance function, preferably in the Pay-As-You-Go solar or irrigation industry
- Credit, data, and financial analysis skills to effectively evaluate and report on key business performance metrics with a clear understanding of statistics and quantitative methods and best practices
- Knowledge of lending business practices and consumer credit in emerging markets strongly preferred.
- Team player willing to work with all parts of the business with a track record of managing team OKR’s and/or KPIs in high growth organizations
- Proficiency in ERP systems and tools including PowerBI, Excel/Google Sheets, PowerPoint, and Word
