Joint Effort to Save the Environment (JESE) is a non-profit organization, with a focus on natural resources Management. Founded in 1993, our projects and Programs have a national character and currently implementing activities in Northern Uganda, Rwenzori and the Albertine Regions. Our focus is on the following sectors; agriculture, Water and Sanitation and Natural Resources Management. Vision: A community where people and nature flourish.

 

Job Summary:   The Advocacy and Communications Manager will facilitate the development, implementation and reviews of the JESE Advocacy, Communication strategy, engagement with stakeholders that JESE works with and engaging in evidence based advocacy across subnational and national levels.

The Advocacy, Communication Manager is expected to link Jese efforts at the local/regional levels with efforts at national levels. The manager will work with and relate with civil society partners at the local- and national level policy making arenas and processes.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review and update the JESE Advocacy Communication strategy.
  • Plan and implement advocacy and communication activities of the organisation.
  • Participate in the writing of the project and other advocacy reports of the organisation.
  • Facilitate the documentation and sharing Human-Interest stories/Most Significant Change stories with key stakeholders across digital and non-digital platforms.
  • Participate in Programme/project reviews with the purpose of collating, advocacy, partnership and communication issues to be relayed across the stakeholders of JESE
  • Closely work with and generate advocacy issues cross the thematic departments of JESE
  • In coordination with JESE MEAL officer, organize and document and communicate advocacy related outcomes across the formal, informal and all digital platforms of JESE.
  • Effectively, represent the institution (JESE) in partners’ coordination and planning meetings at local and National Levels.
  • Facilitate capacity building processes of Grassroots advocacy forums established by JESE such as The Elephant Corridor Forest Alliance, The Inter-District Forum, the Agroecology Platform, and several others as they evolve.
  • Support the development of Grassroots advocacy Forums in-line the Key advocacy themes as enshrined in the Advocacy strategy.
  • Provide mentoring support to all advocacy Forums established through JESE Work and help widen their advocacy messaging and agendas.
  • Implement all other advocacy and communication assignments as may be assigned by JESE management.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate should have at least a degree in; Mass Communication with specialization/interest in Natural Resources/Environment and public policy. A Master’s degree in a related field will be of an added advantage.
  • The candidate must demonstrate 3 years’ working experience, in Advocacy and communication work related to Natural Resources Management, Climate Change, agroecology, Gender transformation, Food systems and generally evidence-based advocacy.
  • The candidate should also demonstrate good writing, communication, planning, and computer skills.
  • The candidate MUST be able to work under minimum supervision and should also be fluent in English, Runyakitara and Swahili
