The shareholder consolidation in 2019 was on the back of expanding its presence across Africa whilst providing an entry point into the COMESA market.
Job Summary: The Operational Risk Manager supports in analyzing day-to-day business operations to identify operational risks that may arise from both internal and external factors; the role assesses and measure the magnitude of operational risks across various departments; the role proposes operational risk mitigation, does monitoring and reporting on all matters of operational risk management across the bank.
ey Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing guidance to various business line on risk and control practices and matters in the development of controls.
- Collect data from various internal and external data sources, prepare timely, accurate, & effective risk analysis, reporting and interpret data where appropriate to guide management in decision making process.
- Validate and challenge Risk Management tools such as risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs), incident reports and key risk indicators are operating as intended with adequate controls around such.
- Providing guidance to various business lines on risk and control practices and matters.
- Collaborate with other functions to develop and implement controls to mitigate risks.
- Prepares updated Risk Management documents, reports, presentations, and models in collaboration with the Risk Management team.
- Appropriately, design risk tracking and prioritization mechanisms to ensure defined risk appetite and tolerances threshold are adhered to.
- Ensures the development and maintenance of a viable business continuity plan for areas of responsibility, including call tree, evacuation procedures, resumption site management, vendor notifications and any other areas required.
- Identifies and coordinates programs and training designed to minimize threats and anticipate threats to the company.
- Review and validate first line of defense governance documents (policies, frameworks, procedures, charters) for material changes.
- Perform additional risk oversight and assessment activities including but not limited to operational loss data validation, control testing and validation, root cause analysis of significant fraud and other risk events, preparation of management reports and targeted risk and control assessments.
- Review significant operational risk events and associated post incident reviews as needed.
- Participate in the formulation and review of bank wide policies and procedures.
- As required, developing adhoc analysis, deep dive investigations, control testing and driving specific risk initiatives,
- Perform operational risk stress tests and scenarios analysis.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university and professional training relevant to the role.
- A master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Three years of experience in a similar role in a financial institution
- Professional Qualifications e.g. ACCA, CPA, CFE, CIA etc. are added advantage.
- Excellent knowledge of financial institutions operations and relevant regulations financial institutions
- Excellent knowledge of operations of commercial banks
- Attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills.
- Analytical mind, problem solving, good time management skills and the ability to multi-task work under pressure.
- Proficiency in computer applications
- Team work.
