Job Summary: The QC Inspector – Steel Structures is assigned to various phases of the structural work with an important part in assuring the quality of work in the finished project. He will be completely familiar with plans, specifications, and construction methods for the phases of the work to which he has been assigned. He will perform his duties to ensure that all performed works are as per the contract, the specifications and the project’s requirements. If he does not understand any item which he is responsible for or if he has a doubt, he shall ask his superiors for support.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all construction works are performed in strict accordance with the plans and specifications.
- Coordinate with the Materials Inspectors and other disciplines to arrange for sampling and testing of satisfactorily completed work, and quality assurance testing of suspected materials.
- Coordinate with the Surveyors to check the location and elevations of work for conformance with the plans and specifications.
- Perform visual and dimensional inspection of the structure and check for correct dimensions and orientations of each part based on the approved fabrication and erection drawings.
- Process the Inspection Requests and maintain records of their status.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed by the Subcontractor in case the work is performed on a “day works” basis.
- Enforce performance of the work in strict accordance with the approved safety plan and safety standards.
- Constantly examine the structural integrity of structures during fabrication and erection activities.
- Maintain a detailed record of every inspection result and any alteration made to any structure.
- Review technical drawings and other engineering data and see that each structure is built according to specifications.
- Responsible for inspecting the structures to ensure they comply with the industry safety regulations and standards.
- Report inspection and test results to management and other relevant parties.
- Provide technical assistance to the engineering and construction department whenever consulted.
- Ensure every work is done according to the guidelines, codes and regulations and that all necessary documentation is in place.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) with minimum of five (5) years of demonstrable experience in all aspects of structures supervision/inspection on a major structure projects i.e. steel bridges, steels decks and steel platforms.
- He must possess the ability to read working drawings and related specifications, and capable of enforcing such specifications.
- Must be fully computer literate and able to utilize computer technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and any project specific engineering and construction relevant software.
- Good written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with the project team.
