Straight Talk Foundation (STF) is a Ugandan health communications National Non Governmental Organisation that was founded in 1993 and operates nationally in Uganda. Its activities and interventions aim at improving the sexual reproductive health and wellbeing of young people for adoption of healthy behaviors in Uganda through advocacy, evidence driven communication and youth friendly service delivery. For the past 25 years it has been the leading provider of various social and behavior change communication programs to various stakeholders in Uganda. Its programs and interventions target young people as its primary audience, while significant adults in the lives of young people such as parents and teachers are targeted as a secondary audience.

 

Job Summary:   Under the Program Coordinator, the Project officer, Bursary will be responsible for planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring and reporting on project activities aimed at improving program Access to education, retention and completion of post-primary and post-secondary learning for the Bursary beneficiaries in karamoja region.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Carry out beneficiary enrolment, monitor the level of retention of beneficiaries on the programme, obtain and ensure that parent/ guardian consent forms are filled appropriately.
  • Collect and provide detailed information and data to the program coordinator- bursary for all the beneficiaries on the bursary programme from the districts and schools allocated to each individual project officer.
  • Plan, design and deliver structured mentoring and coaching initiatives within schools and during holidays within their homes and at the STF center in Moroto.
  • Collect student report forms, banking slips and a list of respective school requirements for each bursary programme beneficiary before the beginning of each new term/semester and year of study and ensure all beneficiaries school requirements are catered for before a new term/semester.
  • Conduct structured schools and home visits to the programme post primary beneficiaries and write reports that point out areas of attention as well as lessons that inform the bursary programme in Karamoja.
  • Organize and conduct sensitization initiatives targeting post primary beneficiaries of the programme, parents, guardians and other stakeholders like teachers, community leaders and the wider community about issues on the bursary programme.
  • Develop weekly, monthly, Quarterly and annual work plans for assigned Bursary program.
  • Participate actively in Bursary programme reflection and learning reviews on quarterly basis and provide updates, lessons, challenges and mitigation measures.
  • Actively take part in the selection of new beneficiaries on the programme through monitoring child eligibility as per STF Bursary standards and support the advisory board and district selection committees.
  • Enhance mentoring sessions on protection against sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment.
  • Regular follow-up visits to schools and communities in cooperation with health institutions.
  • Prepare quarterly project progress reports and submit them to the immediate supervisor
  • Document lessons learned and success stories for the project in print and photography.
  • Support the MEAL team to update student data onto the Bursary database system.




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a good University degree in Development studies, Social Sciences, Adult and community Education or related field.
  • Excellent planning, coordination and reporting skills, with the ability to organize a substantial workload comprised of complex, diverse tasks and responsibilities.
  • Computer literacy and excellent documentation skills are a must.
  • Awareness of good practices in relation to child safeguarding and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse.
