About US:

African Queen No. 1 Distributor Limited is a privately-owned organization in the business of large-scale importation and distribution of Fast-Moving Consumer goods in the categories of Personal Care (Hair and Skin), Stationery, Homecare and Foods & Beverages.

 

Job Summary:   The Legal Officer will provide Legal advisory support to the business with a major bias in in debt collection and follow up on prosecution of cases both in criminal and Civil Court.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Providing accurate, relevant, and timely advice to your employer and other members of staff on a variety of legal topics that relate to the business sector and their products or services.
  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various commercial contracts and agreements.
  • Managing and mitigating legal risks by designing and implementing company policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with all laws and regulations that apply to the business.
  • Promoting legal, compliance and risk management best practice throughout the company.
  • Communicating with and managing any third-party bodies such as external counsel or auditors.
  • Staying up-to-date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect your business and specific industry.
  • Following up on recovery of any outstanding sums with all debtors of the company.
  • Ensuring the prosecution of cases for and against the company in both criminal and civil courts.
  • Liaising with the external debt collectors on all cases handled by them
  • Attendance of court for and on behalf of the company.
  • Drafting and updating company policies
  • Any other duties as maybe assigned to you from time to time.

 

Expected reports:

Weekly/monthly

  • Weekly Litigation report
  • Weekly debt recovery report
  • Monthly Contracts report
  • Monthly Compliance report




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Law
  • Post graduate Diploma in Legal Practice
  • An enrolled Advocate
  • Minimum of two (2) years legal practice
  • Self-driven
  • Ability to research
  • Good interpretation of the Law
  • Ability to interact with regulatory authorities.
  • Work well under pressure
