Job Summary: We are seeking to recruit an Internal Audit Assistant to support the Senior Internal Auditor and the Internal Auditor to conduct of various types of audits and reviews to determine the adequacy of internal controls, efficiency of the policies and procedures in accordance with accepted professional standards and adherence to applicable laws and regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Internal Audit Assignments
- Support the preparation of basic documentation for any audit starting, performing tests for assigned tasks as per the audit programme and as per instructions from the Senior Internal Auditor or Internal Auditor,
- Document the work done and conclusions in the set format for audit working papers, and summarise the findings from the work done, form conclusions and highlight the risk implications, and
- Compile working papers and file sections in the prescribed format with complete documentation for each assignment.
Follow up External Audit recommendations and Internal Audit assignments.
- Support in the follow up of implementation of External Audit Management Letter recommendations and Internal Audit recommendations by:
- Inputting findings and recommendations from the latest audits,
- Preparing working papers, including Audit programmes and checklists,
- Performing the work, and
- Updating the trackers and computing the new rates of implementation.
Administrative support for the internal Audit department
- Organise for appointments with appropriate leaders.
- Contribute to the preparation of the budget and annual work-plan.
- Document and file the minutes for departmental meetings.
- Administrative tasks for audit trips out of office.
- Prepare the periodic requisitions for all office supplies.
- Management of cash advances for assignments
- Support in keeping track of department budget.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the role should hold at least a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar/relevant discipline.
- Enrolled for professional accounting qualification.
- One year of working experience in a medium-sized organization.
- Computer literacy in MS Office packages (Especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS project).
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and possess strong work ethic.
- Willingness to learn.
- Confidentiality – requirement to treat information acquired in the course of the duties with the highest level of confidentiality.
- Quality Assurance – Periodic self-assessment reviews against each audit with comments from the supervisor. The audit reviews will contribute to the periodic appraisals.
