Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution networks and all the operational assets associated with the business currently leased to Umeme Ltd. The company monitors Umeme Ltd and other Concessionaires in Uganda, directly distributes of power in Ten (10) territories covering over 86 rural and border districts, operates a modern pole plant at Lugogo, and executes key rural electrification schemes on behalf of Government of Uganda.
Job Summary: The PLANT ASSISTANT will assist the machine operator and the plant attendant in meeting pole plant objectives
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Arrange the poles onto trolleys in preparation for treatment
- Open and close the treatment plant doors before and after the treatment process
- Participant in pouring creosote oil into the tank (from the drums)
- Fetching creosote oil from the reserve basin back into the cylinder vessel
- Assist the machine operator while carrying out minor repairs
- Cut (trim) the poles to the appropriate length before treatment
- Carry out daily cleaning within and around the treatment plant
- Participate in the stacking of both seasoned and treated poles
- Identify risks in the section and devise mechanisms for mitigating them
- Prepare monthly and annual reports on sectional activities in accordance with UEDCL policies and procedures
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Diploma in Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical)
- Should hold a valid driving permit
- A certificate in defensive driving is an added advantage
- Experience of not less than 3 years in a recognized organization handling heavy vehicles.
- Excellent communication skills
