Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd. (KCL) is a member of the Volcafe group, the coffee division of ED&F Man. It is the oldest and largest coffee exporter in Uganda and the first to become ISO 9001:2008 certified. We buy Arabica and Robusta in all coffee producing regions and export about 15% of Uganda’s coffee production to over 30 consuming countries around the world. The company heavily invests in Uganda’s coffee infrastructure and people. Our quality-oriented business strategy aims to lift up the entire coffee sector and improve the quality perception of Ugandan Arabica and Robusta around the globe.
Job Summary: We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a Project Manager to work in a truly global environment where they responsible for the implementation of sustainability projects in KCL’s coffee value chains. The role provides long term development potential for someone eager to demonstrate their skills and experience in a challenging and fast paced soft commodities environment.
ED&F Man are a world leading trader of soft commodities, we trade sugar, coffee, molasses, animal feed and pulses. Our coffee trading division – Volcafe ltd is one of the world’s leading international green coffee trading companies, operating in over 20 countries globally, in coffee procurement, sustainability, blending and export as well as importing and distribution, and it supplies the world’s major coffee roasters and retail distributors with their green coffee requirements, with significant strategic growth ambitions for the future.
Volcafe has built and operated certified, sustainable supply chains across all our origins, addressing key economic, social and environmental issues in coffee farming communities. Since 2014 Volcafe has been providing direct technical assistance to farmers, helping them to improve their coffee quality, farm productivity and yields via our Volcafe Way Farmer Support Organizations (FSOs).
This role is based in Uganda and with our local entity Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Full and detailed understanding of all projects, related work / implementation plans, contracts, and budgets.
- Ensure all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
- Coordinate internal resources and third parties/vendors for the flawless execution of projects.
- Ensure resource availability and allocation.
- Measure / monitor project performance using appropriate systems, tools, and techniques.
- Create, maintain, and manage comprehensive project documentation and records.
- Report and escalate to management as needed.
- Build and manage the relationship with the clients / project funders and other relevant internal and external partners and stakeholders.
- Support project field teams across our regional operations including on project planning, reporting, performance and budgeting
- Develop new project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring feasibility.
- Continue to build a working culture that supports an entrepreneurial approach in the management and implementation of partner projects as well as the supply chains the project are part off.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, business and administration, sociology, or other related discipline. A master’s degree (desirable)
- Proven work experience, minimum of six years, as a project manager in the agricultural sector
- Solid technical background, with understanding and hands-on experience with sustainability projects in the agricultural sector
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrates high attention to detail with excellent leadership, management, and planning skills, with a history of working independently and within agreed timelines.
- Experience with implementation of international certification standards.
- Ability to gather data, compile information and prepare reports and presentations.
