About US:
Uganda Wildlife Research & Training Institute (UWRTI) is a semi-autonomous body under the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities, established by Uganda Wildlife Research & Training Institute Act, 2016. The Institute is mandated to: “Undertake research and training services for sustainable conservation and management of Uganda’s wildlife resources.’’
Job Summary: The Principal Wildlife Research Officer conducts research and performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Director in conformity with the laid down procedures of Uganda Wildlife Research and Training Institute.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plans for development, review and operationalization of the institute research policy (s)
- Develops bankable wildlife research project proposals
- Develops relevant research for wildlife training and conservation
- Provides consultancy for wildlife research and conservation
- Supports the mobilization of research funding
- Supports partnerships with other research institutions
- Disseminates research findings
- Supports collaborative efforts for the uptake of research innovations
- Supports capacity building of staff in wildlife research
- Establishes and updates the data base on wildlife research
- Prepares regular reports on ongoing/completed research projects
- Supervises and appraise staff
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor degree of science (biological), environmental sciences, wildlife biology, natural resources management or related fields from recognized institution.
- Master of Science in the above-mentioned fields from a recognized institution.
- PhD in relevant subject areas is an added advantage
- Should possess progressive relevant working experience of 5 years
- At least five relevant peer reviewed publications
- Evidence of contribution to the community
- Be a citizen of Uganda with a valid national identity card
- Age: Not above 55 years
