About US:

Media Challenge Initiative is a youth-driven non-profit, building the next generation of journalists in Africa through training, mentorship and experiential peer-to- peer learning. MCI has been providing professional journalism and multimedia journalism training since 2012. It is a social enterprise led by a team of four Ugandans that focus on student journalists who hope to improve their skills in the fields of journalism by providing media fellowship and journalism workshops.

 

Job Summary:   As MCI continues to expand, we are seeking a skilled and experienced Human Resource Officer to join our team. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring that all employees perform in alignment with their Job Descriptions (JDs) and contribute effectively to our organizational projects.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performance Management: Develop and implement strategies for effective performance management. Work closely with department heads to ensure that employees meet performance expectations outlined in their JDs.
  • MEAL for Organizational Projects: Collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) team to integrate HR strategies into organization-wide projects. Ensure that HR practices align with project goals and contribute to the overall success of initiatives.
  • Talent Retention: Design and implement initiatives to attract and retain high-caliber employees. Conduct regular engagement surveys and implement action plans based on feedback.
  • Employee Relations: Serve as a point of contact for employee relations issues, fostering a positive and inclusive workplace culture. Mediate and resolve conflicts to maintain a harmonious work environment.
  • Training and Development: Identify training needs and coordinate the development and delivery of relevant training programs. Support career development initiatives to enhance employee skills and capabilities.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive experience in Human Resources.
  • Proven experience in performance management, talent retention, and employee relations.
  • Familiarity with MEAL practices and their integration into HR processes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, MCI Fellows and alumni.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

 

Desirable:

  • Experience in project management
  • Experience working in a Media (for) development organization,
  • Stellar Monitoring and Evaluation skills.
