Job Summary: The Head of Credit Evaluation will support the Business in achieving their asset growth targets by providing effective value adding risk management, while maintaining a quality credit portfolio through judicious and effective management thereof. The incumbent will also deliver a professional service to the Business and Institutional Banking unit, by assessing and evaluating credit facilities (new and existing) based on sound credit and financial principles which supports the minimizing of risk to the Bank.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate whether proposals meet sound business criteria and credit risk falls within acceptable parameters, approval and recommend appropriate credit facilities including terms or conditions of facilities.
- Identify, quantify, and evaluate sources of credit risk in relation to profitability of business proposals and financial viability of prospective clients.
- Utilize available industry risk analysis to identify and appreciate contextual threats to new and existing clients.
- Ensure timely and quality credit assessment and decisions made with adherence to executed service level agreements.
- Build a strong relationship with the Business teams to improve quality of business proposals and turnaround time on all credit evaluations.
- Detect and evaluate shifts or changes in key risk parameters and evaluate the implications of such changes on the overall banking relationship.
- Review annually the Business and Institutional bank book and set appropriate risk appetite metrics.
- Monitor and assess portfolio performance metrics against risk appetite triggers.
- Initiate and manage actions on all accounts in watch under the Business and Institutional business.
- Issuance of sanction letters upon review that all conditions and requirements for the proposed lending have been duly and accurately captured.
- Collaborate with the Managers of Credit Administration and Monitoring / Recoveries to ensure that all accounts identified as high risk are being managed effectively in terms of agreed action plans.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree or Post graduate qualification in finance, business, economics, or related field.
- Seven or more years of experience in credit analysis, risk management, portfolio management, or related field.
- Experience in commercial banking is required.
- Knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and financial statement analysis.
- In-depth knowledge of credit products, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor a team in a fast-paced work environment.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate complex issues and processes effectively.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
