Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade, Industry & Cooperatives responsible for Standardization, Quality Assurance, Metrology (Measurement), and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objectives of facilitating fair trade, promoting local industries and protecting consumers.
Job Summary: Reporting to Senior Software Developer and the main purpose is to develop software solutions for UNBS functions to ease transition to effective ICT usage throughout UNBS operations in line with the Departmental objectives and UNBS mandate.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- To establish and document a Software Application development program to guide systems requests and schedules.
- To develop software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the software development lifecycle.
- To develop detailed documentation for the operation of the developed programs by users and computer operators
- To develop, update, repair, and modify the existing software and generic applications for effectiveness and efficiency
- To advise and determine operational feasibility of requested programs by evaluating, analyzing, and undertaking problem definition.
- To document and demonstrate program solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear codes.
- Prepare and install solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
- To improve operations by conducting systems analysis, reviews and training of users and recommending changes in policies and procedures if deemed necessary.
- Work closely with analysts, designers and staff to produce detailed specifications and writing the program e-codes
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold an Honours degree in either Computer Science, Information Technology OR Computer Engineering from a recognized University/Institution
- Possession of at least one professional qualification in ICT field is an added advantage
- Member of a recognized professional body is an added advantage
- Two years of work experience in ICT field
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- High integrity, innovative, creative and self-driven.
- Proven ability to work independently as well as in cross-functional groups.
- Age: Not more than 30 years old.
