Job Summary: The Financial Accountant reports to the Head-Finance. The Financial Accountant shall prepare statutory financial statements for audit and publication, in compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards, and regulatory requirements and ensure the effective operation of internal controls.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- In charge of the preparation of financial statements in line with IAS and IFRS guidelines and support schedules.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of statutory returns (daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly returns to the Bank of Uganda, NSSF, and Uganda Revenue Authority and timely submission of remittances to all statutory bodies.
- Ensure that schedules to support the figures are prepared and linked to their respective returns.
- Submit returns to Internal Audit for certification
- Ensure preparation and maintenance of the accurate fixed assets register
- Coordination of internal and external audits and ensuring that issues raised by the independent reviewers are attended to promptly to avoid penalties
- Create a database for all external reviewers’ recommendations and follow up to ensure that they are fully implemented.
- Ensure relevant policies are updated in a timely manner
- Ensure that all tax computations are made i.e. corporation tax, stamp duty. PAYE, withholding tax, and LST to all statutory bodies.
- Provision of accurate financial information to all stakeholders
- Review payments for accuracy, completeness, and against budget before execution of payment.
- Ensure that the relevant policies are updated through continuous research.
- Identify changes in IFRS that require an update to the Finance Manual and ensure that they are implemented.
- Ensure that all quarterly returns are certified by the external auditors.
- Monitor the bank’s compliance with the regulatory ratios and reporting at all times
- Check and authorize vouchers.
- Authorize posting of entries for acquisition, disposal, and depreciation of fixed assets.
- Responsible for maintaining the fixed assets register.
- Ensure that all the duties of all other staff are duly completed.
- Any other duties as shall be assigned by the Head -Finance or Supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Professional certification such as ACCA, CPA (at least level III) or equivalent is highly desirable.
- Proven experience as a Financial Accountant or in a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
- Proficient in the use of accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
