Job Summary: The Assistant Accountant will be responsible for preparing and inputting journal entries, processing accounting transactions as directed by supervisors, managing petty cash, ensuring timely branch replenishments, processing cheques and electronic payments, generating requested reports, providing information and system reports, and performing various department tasks as assigned.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Timely preparation of bank reconciliations.
- Preparation and posting of journal/accounting entries.
- Processing cheque and electronic payments.
- Efficient management of branch replenishments and cash balances.
- Timely clearing of branch accountabilities.
- Proper and timely filing of taxes.
- Acting as an alternate to the Management Accountant.
- Managing petty cash.
- Providing required information and reports promptly.
- Reconciliation of allocated balance sheet accounts.
- Filing of all supporting documents.
- Maintenance of the fixed asset register to ensure accuracy in general ledger records.
- Performing any other duties as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a University Degree in a business-related subject.
- Credit Three (3) and better in mathematics and English at O – Level.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Basic knowledge of the microfinance and banking industry and related statutory banking compliance regulations.
- Analytical skills (basic financial numbers and results).
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain high standards of accuracy in information.
- Intermediate mathematical and numeric skills.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and monitor own work plan.
- Attention to detail.
