Job Summary:   Within a specific period, the delivery partner/curator will be expected to deliver Creative Economy Week as will be discussed and agreed upon with the British Council team.  CREATIVE ECONOMY WEEK Uganda provides a spotlight on British Council programmes and partner organisations/hubs, including those targeting women and people with disabilities, with a targeted focus to increase the profile of our work in Fashion including associated activity in Film and Visual Arts in Uganda while supporting professional development and opportunities for young creatives 18-35, access new livelihood opportunities increased awareness of opportunities across the creative sector value chain.

 

This will be delivered as public-facing events and online live streaming, with panel discussions, policy round tables with sector practitioners, the relevant government authorises and stakeholders within the creative sector.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Cultural producer will be expected to:

  • Deliver the Creative Economy week stated for March. Key responsibilities for the delivery of the Creative Economy Week are:
  • To work in partnership with the Uganda arts team to support the launch of the Creative Economy Week series of activities including Creative Hustles (minimum of three expected in the week)
  • To work closely with the Marketing team, arts team to build/support a marketing strategy for the creative economy week.
  • Stakeholder mapping and management of different partners for the creative economy week.
  • Organize access to market opportunities.
  • Create/curate one (1) online campaign to lead Creative Economy week visibility.
  • Organise two Physical networking opportunities targeting those in the fashion sector including linking to the British Council Creative DNA programme
  • Confirm speakers/participants for panel discussions and policy round tables in partnership with the British Council Arts team.
  • Contract speakers ahead of the event.
  • Open registration and publicise each event in partnership with the British Council Arts team.
  • Deliver two subsequent Creative Hustle activities as part of the wrap-around British Council programme activity.
  • Manage the delivery of each event: registration confirmation, venue booking, catering, event setup including online event management, supervision and delivery, participants’ attendance sheets, baseline and end-of-event surveys, videography, photography, etc.
  • Manage payment to all vendors and speakers.
  • Manage end-of-event M&E, report, and attendance database to submit to the Uganda Arts team.
  • To liaise with Business Support Services as required across Finance, Procurement, and Marketing and Communications.
  • Organise the launch of the research findings.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum/essential Understanding of Arts and Culture scene in Uganda.
  • Recent professional experience in a creative programme management role.
  • Strong experience of successful end–to-end programme and event management.
  • Experience of managing finances and organizational resources.
  • Strong experience facilitating and managing learning events, conversations, discussion programmes with young people 18-35 with a focus on digital engagement..
  • Wide stakeholder management experience including ability to identify and pick potential speakers for the programme including UK based speakers.
  • Connection to international and other local hubs to bring learning to support this project.
  • Knowledge background of the cultural and creative industries in SSA
  • An interest and developing expertise in working with young people with an emphasis on underrepresented groups from the cultural sector.
  • We are looking for candidates who have skills and experience of reaching wide networks of young people across identified programme countries (f2f and virtually) including engaging young people in policy and creative enterprise dialogue.
  • Understand the types of digital engagement opportunities through online learning and the British Council Uganda creative sector ambitions to connect with young people.
  • Language requirements: English
  • Requirements – All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Uganda. The British Council will not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permit.

 

Desirable

  • A strong understanding of creative and cultural industries
  • Established a network of artists, stakeholders, and organizations in Uganda.
  • An innovative approach to the use of digital and social media to connect audiences.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for partnerships and expansion of the delivery of our work.
  • Experience working with the Fashion sector in Uganda.

 

Consultancy Duration – January 2024 and June 2025

  • All the activities will need to be delivered to the timelines and on the dates specified above. Applicants will need to confirm their agreement to deliver to these dates and timelines for their applications to be considered.
  • Selected Partners will need to attend a joint inception planning meeting (online/face-to-face) before the start of the programme.
