Job Summary: The Grade III Teacher will directly facilitate general learning processes both in & out of classrooms during learning hours in the primary school that you will be posted to, planning together with your colleagues deliver the lessons, carry out continuous assessment of learners and plan for remedial lessons when its required, report to the Head Teacher of the school as your immediate supervisor and participate in any education and community engagement aimed at promoting access to schools organized by the school, FCA and development partners.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Safeguard learners/students from any forms of abuse(bullying, name calling, humiliation, constant criticism, sexual abuse and exploitation, bad touches, use of shameful and bad language/statements, ignoring, scaring and isolating learners, kicking, punching, hitting etc which affects their learning.
- Identify signs of child abuse that could result into sudden change in behaviour, listen to them and support them to report such concerns to the school administration or safeguarding focal teachers in schools.
- Prepare the schemes of work and lesson plans in line with the approved curriculum on a termly and weekly basis respectively.
- Conduct lessons and remedial work according to the set timetable.
- Participate in setting, administering, and marking internal and external assessments and examinations.
- Carry out continuous assessment and evaluation of pupil’s performance.
- Develop and improve on learning aids/ material for teachers and learners use.
- Carry out child studies and keep a profile for each pupil in the class.
- Guide and counsel pupils on a range of challenges faced both at school and home.
- Participate in class and departmental meetings organised within and outside school.
- Serve as teacher on duty based on schedule and school arrangements.
- Lead pupil participation in co – curricula activities and link the school to the community.
- Participate in Safeguarding trainings and activities, including compliance with the Child Protection and Safeguarding Policies in place.
- Promote learner descipline and compliance to school rules and regulations.
- Participate in the self-assessment and appraisal of the teaching Assistants.
- Professionally manage his/her classrooms to ensure learner participation for inclusive learning and teaching to enhance quality learning.
- Participating in community mobilization and sensitization activities aimed at increasing enrolment.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Grade III primary Teacher certificate (for Grade III Teacher)
- Must be registered with Ministry of Education, Science and Sports.
- Three years of teaching experience in primary school.
- Must be a team player and able to work in multi-ethnic environment.
- Must be an innovative teacher, able to produce results amidst challenges.
- Must be able to listen and respect authority.
- Must be hard-working and disciplinarian with skills to control large classes.
- High integrity personnel to control the teaching materials available and demonstrate knowledge of teachers’ code of conduct.
- Willing to work within refugee community in promoting access to education.
- Basic understanding of refugee situation and able to live within the refugee communities.
- Experience in the field of disability inclusion and accessibility to services for persons with disabilities
