Job Summary: We are looking for a Media Analyst to interpret written, audio, and video messages in different languages and ensure that their original meaning is maintained. Their responsibilities include reading/listening/watching and thoroughly understanding the context of given material, using specialized in-house tools, and proofreading finished pieces of work. To be successful in this role, you should have a keen eye for detail, and a high degree of curiosity, and must be fluent in English and Luganda in addition to your native language.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Read the given material and research media industry-specific terminology
- Convert text, audio, and video recordings from one language to another.
- Ensure translated content conveys original meaning and tone
- Prepare subtitles for videos and online presentations
- Cross-reference specialized dictionaries and translation tools to check the quality of the
- translation
- Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling, and punctuation accuracy
- Collaborate with the team members to ensure translation meets clients’ needs
- Edit content to maintain its original format (e.g. font and structure)
- Network with field experts to stay current on new translation tools and practices
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication.
- Minimum of a Diploma from a recognized Institution. Journalism/mass communication
- will be an added advantage.
- Additional certification in Linguistics is a plus.
- Better understanding of at least one of the languages listed below;
- 4Rs (Runyakole, Rutooro/Runyoro, Rukiga)
- Rukonjo
- Luo (Alur, Acholi, Madi)
- Lugisu/Lumasaba
- Lusoga
- Lugbar
- Ateso
- Knowledge of English and Luganda is a MUST.
- Good Computer skills.
- Good and Fast typing Skills.
- Proven work experience as a Translator, Interpreter, or similar role
- Good knowledge of content editing tools.
