Job Summary: The role of Communications and Knowledge Sharing Associate at GGGI Uganda is pivotal in enhancing our organizational presence at both national and sub-national levels. This position requires a proactive collaboration with the Country Representative and the Uganda team, ensuring the effective implementation of GGGI’s Communication Strategy. The focus will be on amplifying GGGI’s brand, strengthening partnerships with media, counterparts, and donors, and promoting our initiatives, particularly the EU funded SPEAR-CF program.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Engagement
- Assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with national and local media outlets and journalists with relevant coverage to GGGI’s work.
- Liaise with communication service providers such as event organizers to ensure timely and high-quality delivery of tasks, services, products.
- Build a strong collaborative working relationship with the Communication and Knowledge Sharing Unit at HQ and ensure the smooth implementation of HQ lead communication, branding guidelines and policies.
- Actively engage with Global Communication and Knowledge Sharing team.
- Engage with GGGI’s county, regional, and global programs to learn about their interventions and support external audience facing initiatives.
- Engage with media colleagues to promote GGGI’s green growth solutions in Uganda
- Collaborate with stakeholders to foster a supportive environment for GGGI’s green and climate financing message within Uganda’s landscape.
Delivery
- Collaborate with the Country Representative and Uganda team to execute GGGI’s Communication Strategy effectively.
- Lead the development and implementation of the Communication and Visibility Plan for the EU funded SPEAR-CF program, aligning with GGGI’s goals and standards.
- Enhance GGGI’s online presence by boosting social media channels and creating engaging content that reflects the organization’s mission and activities.
- Implement strategies to position GGGI’s brand positively, both nationally and sub-nationally, ensuring consistent messaging across all platforms.
- Design and disseminate impactful communication and knowledge products that align with GGGI’s mission. These products should be audience centric and should resonate across various platforms, including social media, to support country-led, regional, and global events and initiatives.
- Support the delivery of high-quality communication products/initiatives within GGGI’s projects, ensuring seamless communication and coordination among team members.
- Efficiently manage the communication requirements of GGGI’s Uganda Program on a daily basis, ensuring alignment with organizational standards.
- Identify and produce high quality communication materials including blogs, reports, multi-media presentations for internal as well as external audiences.
- Monitor coverage of key GGGI Uganda issues in national and regional media and track GGGI Uganda’s media hits. Produce a list of relevant media articles and distribute them to the wider team.
- Develop communications products such as brochures, media kits, press releases, event write ups, presentations, factsheets, reports, promotional videos.
- Support the communications/promotion of all GGGI events and webinars for country programs, press conferences and media relations activities and initiatives by donors / partners to ensure alignment and complementarity as needed.
- Coordinate photography for and activities, maintain graphic and photo files, and manage media archive.
- As brand-champion, proofread and support formatting of project documents, training materials and others as needed and work with consultants on these when needed.
- Any other tasks related to his/her work scope as requested by Country Representative and/or program managers.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience of at least 3 years in developing and implementing communication strategies in a similar role including in the development sector.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms, digital marketing, and content creation.
- Experience and proven track record with Digital Media especially videography
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to tailor messages for different audiences and turning often technical content into easy to understand pieces for wide audiences.
- Previous experience working with international organizations, especially in the climate or development sector, is an asset.
- Proficiency in relevant software and tools (WordPress, InDesign, Adobe) for content creation and social media management.
- Proven strong network within Uganda within the required themes, proven experience with working with Ugandan Government, especially concerning their involvement with the media.
- Exceptional skills in building productive working relationships with colleagues, field offices, stakeholders, donors and other partners.
- Experience and strong public speaking skills is an advantage.
- Experience in designing and supporting participatory workshops will be an advantage.
- Good understanding of the Ugandan media environment
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills
