Job Title:    Telehealth Clinical Officer or Nurse – West Nile

About US:

Healthy Entrepreneurs (HE) is a social enterprise based in Uganda (and several other countries). HE aims to improve the access to basic health care for people living in rural and remote communities (84% of the population). HE recruits and trains VHTs or Community Health Workers who have entrepreneurial spirits and skills. They pay a commitment fee and are provided with the tools and products to become Community Health Entrepreneurs (CHEs), serving their communities by selling reliable and affordable health products and services, educating communities and providing access to a doctor-at-distance, our TELEHEALTH team. Community Health Entrepreneurs serve their communities with basic health care while earning an income. HE trains them on health topics and business skills and provides them with a starter kit on credit to start their micro-business in basic health products and services (including a doctor-at-distance). We are growing towards a network of 20.000 customers, serving 95% of rural Uganda by 2024.

About Telehealth:

HE has implemented a telehealth solution, a call-centre for our Community Health Entrepreneurs. This is a cost-effective and fast way to respond, as it offers an effective platform for inquiries within the community and provides up to date information, remote assessment and consultations about primary health conditions and healthy lifestyles. HE’s telehealth team provides advice about common infectious conditions including COVID-19, malaria, pneumonia, diarrhea and common cold, but also around non-communicable diseases, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles. Our telehealth desk is run by our team of qualified medical professionals (a global health expert/doctor, clinical officers and nurses). Our medical team ensure professional anamnesis, diagnosis, advice and if need prescription. They can also order for more information or testing through the CHE. They do follow-up calls or refer to a health centre or hospital. All clients are registered in a digital system, in which follow-up actions can easily be monitored. Various clinicians can be referred to in case further review/assessment is necessary (which the triage will indicate). Based on the triage, a tailored advice will be provided to all clients. All these services are fully supported with advanced technology that assures their quality. Our telehealth team is based in Kampala and provides continuous access to health expertise for our CHEs and their customers.

Job Summary:   The Telehealth professional is part of our team of doctors and nurses and reports to the Telehealth lead.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Care and telehealth services

• Responsible for quality of health care/service provided by phone to our end-customers living in rural and remote areas through our Community Health Entrepreneurs. Our medical team answers the incoming health calls, following company policies and the latest health guidelines.
• Greeting customers (end-customers and/or CHEs) in a prompt and friendly fashion
• Building rapport and sustainable relationships with customers by showing an engaging, kind, and helpful attitude
• Providing outstanding service to customers/visitors
• Manage health inbound and outbound calls in a timely manner
• Completing calls providing quality health advice
• Identifying and/or escalating health issues for resolution
• Performing triage by examining a client/customer’s (medical) history and signs/symptoms, and entering the flow of data into a mobile app, computer system, program, or database
• Assisting customers/callers by providing tailored, quality advice and information, answering questions, and/or referring calls/inquiries as necessary, based on triage
• Reporting & monitoring
• Meet personal/team qualitative and quantitative targets
• Make routine shift reports
• Use our medical applications for proper monitoring and registration of patients
• Participate and contribute actively in company/departmental meetings
• Assist in training other (medical)staff (on triage, IT system, client-orientation)
• Assist in development of new trainings for CHEs
• Support further development of medical services, operations and processes, such as eDispensing.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• The applicant must hold a Diploma in Nursing or diploma in Clinical Medicine from a recognized institution
• Previous experience in clinical setting is preferrable.
• Language proficiency (English and two other Ugandan languages is highly preferable)
• English is a must
• Kakwa, Alur, Lugbara, and/or Madi
• Enthusiastic, upbeat personality; mature, professional demeanor and team player
• Customer-oriented with commitment to quality and high performance
• Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Able to work under pressure, fast learner
• Proficiency with mobile and computer applications, such as MS Office, and typing skills and patient-record and monitoring applications
• Flexible: we rotate the shifts so that our service is available 7 days a week, being able to work from home is of added advantage (for evening shifts)
• Community based work experience is of added advantage
• Previous engagement in telehealth activities is of added advantage

Salary range: depending on experience and assessment performance 800K-1.1M gross.
