About US:
The Greater Kamuli Agri-Business Cooperative Society Limited (KABFAC) is fully a registered farmers’ cooperative society with the registrar of cooperatives in Uganda with a registration number P23086/RCS. Our membership and operations cut across districts of Kamuli, Buyende, and Kaliro with membership of over 500 farmers. KABFAC intends to enhance commercialization and industrialization of agricultural production in Busoga sub region through training and mentoring of farmers on modern agronomic practices and technologies, value addition of the agricultural produces, and linkages to local and international markets, all aimed at improving food security, reduce unemployment and increase household incomes of the practicing rural communities.
Job Summary: KABFAC now seeks to recruit a qualified, experienced, committed, and competent Ugandan to fill the vacancy of General Manager.
The incumbent will coordinate, manage, supervise and monitor all the activities of the Cooperative Society in line with the set policies and directions by the board of directors. He/she is responsible for supporting the team and the successful delivery of services riming with the interests of the members, so as to generate profits and other benefits for its members.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the Cooperative Society and carry out its business so that it is profitable and sustainable for the benefit of its members and other stakeholders;
- Efficiently allocate the society’s financial, and material resources in accordance with Policies and Procedures of a Cooperative Society to successfully meet its mission in consultation and guidance from the board of directors
- The General Manager will carry on the business of the co-operative society under the directions set by the board of directors and will act on the board’s behalf in all matters related to the co-operative’s operations.
- Coordinate and monitor all the activities of the Cooperative Society, and ensure that it meets set targets and objectives;
- Organize periodic Staff Meetings for a smooth implementation of all activities of all projects and then Develop and present to the Board for its approval appropriate financial plans (budgets) for capital and recurrent expenditure to ensure appropriate monitoring and reporting.
- Supervise, guide, coach, motivate and evaluate all staffs so as to maximize their respective performance;
- Provide prudent financial management in the pursuit of society goals, aims and objectives through the use of effective and transparent accounting systems, and appropriate financial planning and control.
- Work closely with other staff members to produce Short, Medium and Long-term Plans of the Cooperative Society to ensure that the cooperative takes the appropriate strategic direction while maintaining the strategic growth and health of the organization and its members.
- Represent the Cooperative Society in local, regional, national and or international meetings, workshops, seminar and other forum.
- Identify and mobilize resources and establish networks with donors, public level sector partners, local and international NGOs, and other stakeholders and partners.
- Design and implement a Marketing Plan for the Cooperative Society, source for market outlets for all produce at good terms and conditions of trade.
- Review and monitor stock levels in accordance with prescribed Stores Management Guidelines, and also ensure that stock records are accurate and complete.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- University Degree in Business administration, Project Management and Marketing, developmental studies, Cooperative studies and management, agri-business, social sciences, or related fields with knowledge of agricultural practices.
Experience
- At least two years of experience working in development work or management of a similar organization,
- Previous work experience with Member Based Organization or community organizations is desirable.
- Experience on project planning and management, resource mobilization
Competencies, Experience and Qualifications
- Substantial senior management experience in an operational executive or similar position. Experience in a Cooperative institution is an added advantage.
- Knowledge, experience and understanding of co-operative businesses and management
- Networking and relationship building, demonstrated interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated capacity in supervising, team building and empowering employees to achieve program objectives.
- good writing and oral presentation, and communication skills, computer skills and experience in the use of participatory methodologies are essential.
- A proven ability to identify areas that need improvement and provide innovative solution
- Sound strategic management skills with a strong commitment to the ongoing improvement of the society.
