Job Title:     Systems Administrator

About US:

Uganda Christian University (UCU) is an authentic Christian institution established by the Church of Uganda in 1997 in response to a call for quality university education with a Christian perspective. Uganda Christian University replaced the historic Bishop Tucker Theological College which trained clergy and educators during its 84-year history from 1913-1997. The local chief, Hamu Mukasa, granted land for the college to operate in Mukono.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Administer and maintain the University’s server infrastructure, including both physical and virtual environments such as file servers, VPN gateways, intrusion detection systems, active directory (preferably Open LDAP), DNS’s, Web servers and many more.
• Administer enterprise mail servers in an open-source environment (Linux/UNIX).
• Establish and oversee a robust backup strategy for critical systems and data. Maintain comprehensive documentation of disaster recovery processes, configurations and procedures.
• Develop and execute procedures for data restoration in the event of a system failure or disaster.
• Regularly test and update disaster recovery procedures to enhance system resilience.
• Support LANs, WANs, network segments, Internet, and intranet systems.
• Ensure efficiency, redundancy and availability of all University Systems.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues and optimize operations for efficiency.
• Maintain network and system security as well as perform security updates and patches.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Computer Engineering.
• Must have at least two (2) years of work experience in a busy environment performing similar tasks.
• Professional certifications in MCSE, CCNA will be an added advantage.
• Must have good knowledge and understanding of TCP/IP networking is an added advantage.
• Experience in thin client computing and Virtualization are key.
• Experience in setting up and administering digital library services is key.
• Good knowledge and understanding of Windows Server administration.
• Knowledge of VoIP functionality is an added advantage.
• Must be a mature, practicing & committed Christian.
