Job Summary: The Luganda News Anchor/Reporter (Female) will interpret and communicate news and public affairs in the most in-depth and insightful manner. The incumbent will link the audience with news makers so as to gain and increase credibility of the station and widen its viewership base with emphasis on driving audiences to NMG social media platforms.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Take instructions and briefs from the Head of News Gathering and News Producers on stories to be covered.
- Analyses and broadcasts news received from various sources.
- Present news on air in an eloquent, clear and concise manner.
- Ensure that your conduct does not put the organization in dispute.
- Telecasting live bulletins and giving interviews from remote locations.
- Prepare for breaking News developments.
- Gather incisive and in-depth information through research, interviews and crucial news sources or leads.
- Research and report on specialized fields such as medicine, science and technology, politics, foreign affairs sports, arts, consumer affairs, business, religion, crime or education.
- Develop ideas or material for features or commentaries by analyzing and interpreting news, current issues or personal experiences.
- Apply NMG Editorial and social media policies whenever posting any content on personal or company digital assets.
- Undertake any other news research projects as assigned by the Head of News-NMGU and News Producers.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a University Degree in Mass Communication or any related field from an accredited institution. Professional: Diploma in Journalism.
- Two years of daily newsroom experience, with a minimum of one year in Anchoring/Reporting.
- Passion for writing coupled with a keen news sense
- Possesses broad knowledge of local and regional issues and in-depth knowledge in beat specialty
- Knowledge of current affairs
- Ability to write, read and understand Luganda
- Ability to translate from English to Luganda and vice versa
- Ability to work accurately and under pressure
- Deadline-driven
- Computer literate
- Must have a good eye for detail
- Excellent spelling, grammar and punctuation skills
- Must be able to deal effectively with simultaneous tasks
